Prevalent Force swamps field in Krishnaraja Trophy

  August 30 , 2018

Darius Byramji trained Prevalent Force had often suffered because of being forced to run trips which did not suit him or made to run when he had niggles. Brought back to race over seven furlongs in the Gr 3 Krishnaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Thursday`s Mysore races, the progeny of Multidimensional proved that he was class apart as he beat the opposition pointless. Castlebridge ran well below par. Six of the seven races went the way of Mysore based horses.

It is quite possible that the market was aware that there was something amiss with Castlebridge. Castlebridge had won the Derby on this very track last year in a record timing but the odds on him suggested he had lost the aura about him. Prevalent Force received solid support. True to expectations, Prevalent Force had things his way while Castlebridge finished in the ruck and did not look the champion that he was.

Cavallo Veloce and Tutankhamun led the field as the starter dispatched the field for the seven furlongs trip. Castlebridge who had a hesitant start was brushed up on the wide outside to race third followed by Accolade, Prevalent Force, Justice Angel and the rest. Rounding the final turn, Castlebridge steadily lost touch with the front-runners in the stretch to eventually fall way behind. Tutankhamun led the field into the final furlong but once Prevalent Force was set alight, the race ceased to be a contest. Prevalent Force swooped on the front-runners and was eased up well before the winning post to win in a smart time. Justice Angel rallied late to displace Tutankhamun from the runner-up berth. Accolade was a close fourth while Cavallo Veloce who had surprised in the BTC Anniversary Cup did not look the part.

Nataraj trained Natanza brought off an upset in the 1200 metres Civil Services Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Mickey Mouse who had come down in scales was well supported to strike winning form after a long interval. Mickey Mouse led in earnest deep into the stretch but once Natanza was sighted on the wide outside with a powerful effort, it was clear that the front-runner would be overwhelmed. Natanza sped away to win from Magnum Opus with late-finishing Super Success displacing Mickey Mouse from the third position.

The 1400 metres Mount Everest Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, rank outsider Perfecto from the stables of Vishal Yadav bringing off a stunning upset. Summer Palace who was strongly backed to win flopped miserably. The Mysore based horses which play second fiddle to Bangalore horses during the regular season had their day on Thursday. Warren Singh trained Glittering Gold led from the start and looked like she had the field covered in the final furlong but Perfecto burst out of the pack in the final furlong to catch up with the front-runner in the closing moments of the race. Oceanic Storm necked out favourite Summer Palace to get the third position.

Nataraj trained Yellow Zone produced a tremendous performance in the 1600 metres Lakshadweep Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. The well-backed Yellow Stone raced in a handy position as Momotaro set the pace. With a furlong left in the race, Yellow Stone showed out on the wide outside and soon he had gone clear of the field to win by a widening margin of six lengths. Favourite Anteros managed to edge out the long-time leader Momotaro to get the second position.

Bobby trained Domitia won the 1100 metres Yelahanka Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 0 to 25, in a tight finish. Stars In His Eyes led till the shadow of the post at which point Domitia managed to put her head in front. Hafnium added excitement to the race with a late dash but Domitia managed to scrape home. All that Hafnium could do was to nose out Stars In His Eyes for the second position. A long shot from Srinivas Babu`s stable, Dr Scully led aggressively in front and skipped away in the final furlong for a decisive win in the lower division of the race. Engleberg and Master of War occupied the next two slots.

Nataraj had a double for the day through the lesser fancied Warlock who had it easy in the 1400 metres Monsoon Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Warlock chased Poets Song well into the straight before stepping up the accelerator and drawing clear to win by a margin of over four lengths. Lucky Pineapple was third while favourite Spike put up a poor show.
