Mauritania overcomes ring rustiness

Padmanabhan trained Mauritania overcame ring rustiness and asserted his class in the 1400 metres F K Irani Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 75 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. Mauritania had last run in Super Mile at Kolkata in March and had finished third. He had skipped the whole of the summer season which is perhaps the reason why the odds went up despite the progeny of Excellent Art appearing superior to the opposition.

Sandesh took Mauritania, the speedy customer to the front despite carrying the top weight as this style suits him best. Though close home he was pressured by a host of runners, he skipped away in the final furlong to record an impressive win in an excellent timing of one minute 21.31 seconds which was fractionally short of the course record. The Lieutenant edged out Pinyada to get the third position.
  
  


Bobby trained Korol recorded a win at nourishing odds in the 1400 metres R R R Gold Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Hot N Fire and Mulholland from Bangalore were perceived to have a great chance to win this company. Hot N Fire led from the start as the field settled down and had the lead till going into the final furlong. Korol who raced in about the fourth position in the early part of the race was alerted to the task by jockey Sai Kiran and the response from the progeny of Whipper was electrifying. Korol stormed clear even as Hot N Fire packed up and finished down the field. Super Smart, Sagrada, Mulholland and Saladin charged home with belated efforts and finished in the order mentioned behind the winner.

Tejaswi trained El Tycoon pulled off a long shot win in the 1400 metres M P Appayya Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. El Tycoon and Halloween`s Way made their move precisely at the same juncture in the final furlong. The former held the advantage right through to the winning post and won by a neck. Favourite Top Striker showed up briefly in the final furlong but failed to produce that bit extra and had to be satisfied with the tame third position.

Bangalore challengers Halfsies and Ultimate Power fought all the way in the final furlong of the 1400 metres Son of the Light Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class. The latter ridden by apprentice jockey Darshan who is enjoying a glorious season asserted himself in the final moments of the race. Dallas was third. Vishal trained Senegal obliged in the lower division of the race. The fancied Another Rainbow had assumed command with a furlong left in the race but the front-runner had no answer when Senegal swooped on him. The latter got strong in the final moments of the race in the hands of jockey Anil Baandal. Golden Opinion who also enjoyed good support in the ring, came home late to occupy the third position.

Inayathulla trained Quick Action brought off an impressive win in the 1600 metres Secunderabad Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Intrepid Warrior led from the start into the stretch before being overwhelmed by Quick Action who produced a scintillating burst of speed in the final furlong to win the race with great ease. Amber Crown nosed out Rustic Sunrise who flashed on the scene rather late. The jockeys of Galaxy Queen and First Step, namely Navin and Ganesh had a fall with a furlong left in the race.

Vishal Yadav trained Dare The Don enjoyed a free run in front and shaped to win a with a furlong left in the race in the 1200 metres Abs Fabs Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The complexion of the race changed once Point and Lord Lisely charged home with powerful efforts. The momentum got Point the race.
