Magical Skill trounces field in main event

By: Tippu Sultan   September 21 , 2018

Satheesh trained Magical Skill trounced the opposition in the 1400 metres Raja Mehboob Karan Memorial Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62, the feature event of Friday`s Hyderabad races. Magical Skill had narrowly beaten George Cross when the two clashed time out. The latter was the firm favourite for the race but this time out, Magical Skill expanded the margin to a distance indicating tremendous improvement.

Magical Skill has always been a prolific performer. After being kept a handy third or fourth along the rails, apprentice jockey Bopanna decided to tackle the front-running Market Leader on straightening for home and asked for a response from his horse. When he shook the rains, the response was scintillating. Magical Skill picked up speed instantly and went sailing clear to win by a distance. By the time George Cross was alerted to chase the front-runner from way off the pace, the race was as good as over. George Cross barely hung on to keep the second position ahead of a cluster of horses with Sunday Carnival taking the third position.

Twenty to one shot Lightning Fin from the stables of trainer Donald Netto pulled it off in the 1200 metres Karimnagar Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Favourite Super Dart responded late and came home with a big effort only to find the front-runner escape to victory.

Long Range chased Jo Mallone well into the straight before emerging strong inside the final 100 metres to record an assertive win. Amazing Script was third. City of Ayaansh who received solid support in the ring reportedly hurt himself at the gate and this was the reason why he dropped back to the last position in the straight after staying in touch with the front-runner till the final bend. Donald Netto trained Inci justified the favouritism in the lower division of the race with a start to finish mission to provide jockey Suraj Narredu with an armchair ride to victory. Max held off Latest News to get the second position.

Snow Castle steadily asserted her supremacy and burst clear inside the final furlong to record a comfortable win over New State in the1200 metres Hyderabad Veterinary College Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. The winner is trained by Faisal Hassan. Lord Gift was in with a chance, but he failed to produce that bit extra when under pressure to perform.

C V G K Kishore trained Yogya won the 1100 metres Royal Tern Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Southern Meteor was well placed to score but the saddle shifted back resulting in incapacitating apprentice jockey Ismail. Yogya got strong in the final furlong and won the race from Stormy by a margin of three lengths. Southern Meteor was third many lengths behind, but the horse was disqualified as something from the saddle fell on the surface before passing the winning post. In Command got the position by default. Lesser fancied Corsican King won the lower division of the race skipping clear in the final furlong. Favourite Red Bullet produced a strong challenge and looked like putting the front-runner in trouble but flattened out to finish a tame second. Negress Dolly was faraway third.
