Exodus scores a belabored win

By: Goldie Boy   November 10 , 2018

Trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s Exodus (Pradeep Chauhan-up) scored a belaboured victory over Javed Khan`s horse, Gloaming (A. Sandesh), to lift the 1,200m Hilliard Cup, the star attraction in Saturday`s seven-event card. The racing, on the whole, was very tough during the afternoon and it hardly came as a surprise as the visiting jockeys dominated proceeding, albeit toiling hard in most cases. The one who, however, reaped the dividends was jockey Dashrath Singh; notching up a brace of winners for trainer Bharath Singh.

The top-weighted 4/1 shot Exodus, Vikash`s recent acquisition, cashed in on his superior western India class. The six-year-old allowed Vijay Singh`s Shivalik Story (Neeraj Rawal) a marginal advantage till into the home stretch before building up a winning lead that was considerably diluted by Gloaming.

Some felt, jockey Sandesh may have under-estimated Gloaming`s potential. The four-year-old was allowed to trail the 11-horse field till about 300m from home. Such waiting tactics weigh heavy in the RCTC`s short home-straight.

However, Sandesh cannot be blamed for the narrow defeat of Raqs Sharqi at the hands of Vijay`s 2/1 favourite, Mahali (Neeraj) in the 1,600m Touch of Silver Handicap. Agreed, the Sharqi, a 9/2 fancied runner, was taking on a three-year-old filly who raced up-front with Lochinivar while the colt was in the mid-division. The Sharqi was brought with a pouncing run but went down by a proverbial whisker, the closest of a nose. The four-year-old have lost many a battles in the past but this one, perhaps, was the closest one.

Javed and Sandesh were, however, in the winner`s enclosure in the 1,200m Arabian

Rose Handicap after a smashing victory of The Kiss. The filly was inconvenienced from the 11 draw but Sandesh steadied the Multidimensional daughter to score a cantering win over a fancied Vijay`s charge, Romanoff (Neeraj). The Kiss is one to follow.

Sandesh was also at the receiving-end on Javed`s another fancied runner, Ascension, in the 1,100m Romantic Notes Handicap. The Phoenix Tower daughter led the field but went down meekly to James McKeown`s 5/1 chance, Nobu (Hindu Singh). Ascension needed this run.

The Dashrath-Bharath combo struck early in the afternoon, and they made their efforts look so much easy. Dashrath rode a copybook race on the two and the out-come was half-a-length victory for Viseron, over the last outing winner, I Me N Myself (Chauhan) in the 1,200m Kariba Handicap.

The combination struck again half-an-hour later when the sparingly raced Simon Templar delivered the goods, rather comfortably, to bag the Artwork Handicap, to leave trainer Aashay Doctor`s Multivalue (C. Alford) in a wild goose chase.

The Doctor family, however, made their day when Arti`s Sabrejet (Alford) delivered the goods with authority in the 1,600m So Amazing Handicap.
