Psychic Force upsets in a tight finish

  November 17 , 2018

Darius Byramji trained Psychic Force pulled off an upset win over Peluche and Knotty Ash in the1600 metres Karnataka Police Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Saturday`s Bangalore races. Psychic Force got the better of Peluche in the closing moments of the race with Knotty Ash finishing a close third. The fancied Snowdon who suffered a mishap at the gates, could not recover from the poor start and failed to make a mark.

The race had a competitive look about it with the pre-race expectations being a close tussle for supremacy among Snowdon who had incurred a big penalty for his second win at Mysore and Derby runner-up horses Peluche and Knotty Ash. Snowdon`s hind leg appeared to be inside the next gate when the start was given. Snowdon jumped out with a jerk and lost any chance of being concerned at the finish with a slow jump. Inside the final furlong, Psychic Force who raced behind pace-setter St Pauli Girl was marginally ahead of Peluche who was gaining ground along the inside and Knotty Ash who was essaying a strong challenge on the wide outside. Peluche then had the lead till the closing moments of the race before Psychic Force managed to put his neck in front. Knotty Ash was third another neck behind.

Prasanna Kumar trained King of the Wind recorded an emphatic win in the 1600 metres Chickmagalur Nirvanappa Shetty Nanjamma TMP Cup, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Racing a handy second into the straight, King of the Wind quickened well in the stretch to draw clear to win from The Invader and Casey. Favourite Indian Pharaoh give a disappointing performance. Nitromax took a fly jump at the start causing her jockey Sai Kiran to be unseated. The riderless horse hampered the smooth progress of the horses racing behind and The Invader who was stuck behind the riderless horse came into a full flow when the cause had been lost.

Neil Darashah trained Queen Latifa scored an upset win after a long wait in the 1200 metres Bangarpet Plate, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Queen Latifa was unleashed on the wide outside by apprentice jockey Nazerul Alam and the progeny of Burden of Proof produced a strong gallop to get the better of Louisiana in the closing stride of the race. Favourite Areca Legend had all the chances but failed to break free and had to settle for the third spot ahead of Haedi`s Folly. Minver Rose led deep into the straight before weakening close home to finish fifth.

The progeny of Midnight Interlude left the field standing in the stretch to win by a widening margin of seven lengths over Ciel Etoie. Le March ran on to finish third.

Full Bloom who had let down as a strong favourite, made amends in the1400 metres Bramhagiri Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Apprentice jockey Nazerul Alam took Full Bloom on a start to finish mission and the lesser fancied runner stayed put in front, skipping beyond the reach of the rest in the final furlong. Favourite Point To Prove made a late rally to occupy the second place ahead of Look Out and Likeaknife in a close finish for the minor placings. Trevor drove out Kashkha to win the lower division of the race. Kashkha got strong inside the final 200 meters and edged past Memoriter to land the spoils with a measure of comfort. Favourite Camila came on the scene late to end up a tame third.
