Governor General keeps scoreline ticking

By: Goldie Boy   December 26 , 2018

Governor General, the western India challenger, in Wednesday`s feature event, the six-horse strong Army Cup field, scored a decisive victory over Multitude. The two fine gallopers have been providing quite an entertainment to the local race enthusiasts, almost since the start of the season. After Friday clash, the score line reads 2-1 in favour of the M.K. Jadhav`s ward, Governor General. Jockey A. Sandesh had been partnering Governor General against Vijay Singh-trained brave galloper, Multitude, with his usual jockey Neeraj Rawal in the saddle. The sporting event in the seven-event Boxing Day card also witnessed a fine performance produced by trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s might sprinter, Denny Crane (app. P. Tejeshwar), who out-smarted the opposition despite his heavy impost of 62-1/2-kg.

Roles of the two champions were reversed on this occasion as Sandesh preferred to ride Governor General up with the pace while Multitude was held back in fourth or fifth as Amorous White (P.S. Chauhan) made most of the running. In view of the changed tactics, Multitude was left to do far too much inside the last furlong when the heat was on, and thus the two-length defeat.

The 1,200m Madras Race Club Cup was also easily claimed by trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s Denny Crane, who was medium of a big gamble. Apprentice P. Tejeshwar rode a perfect pillar-to-post race on the topweighted runner who was backed from 7s down to 3/1.

Another western India migrant, who made a winning debut on the local track, was trainer Shyam Habbu`s grey filly, Raise A Grand (Shezad Khan). The Revel daughter was ridden well off the pace to win the 1,600m Gen. A.S. Vaidya Memorial Cup the way she liked, indicating that she may strike again.

Vijay`s baby, Adhirit (Neeraj) was however, impressive in his flawless victory in the 1,400m C.M. Varma Cup. She took off from the start as trainer James McKeown (Hindu Singh) was in hot chase but 16/10 favourite skated away from the opposition in final straight.

Vijay and Neeraj also combined to win the 2,000m Aphroze Handicap which was also an easy pick for their Darsh. The even-money favourite allowed trainer Rutherford Alford`s top-weighted runner, Houzen (Hindu), to call the shots till about the home straight and scored with a degree of ease, beating the late finishing pair of Power Of Freedom (app. P. Vikram) and Cool Conqueror (app. Rupal Singh).

Hindu, however, stole a march over the opposition on McKeown`s 7/1 shot, Novikov, in the 1,200m Sabre Dance Handicap. Beatles Bible (C.S. Jodha) and Tibidabo (Chauhan), the two fancied runners in the race, however, failed to perform to their potential.

Trainer Daniel David`s 4/1 shot Star Phoenix (app. R.S. Bhati) easily won the Topmost Handicap but form of horses in the lowest Class keep changing in every starts. Therefore, there is nothing to write home about the race.
