Marinetti proves too good in Darley Million

By: Tippu Sultan   January 21 , 2019

Laxman Singh trained Marinetti proved too good in the Gr 1200 metres Darley Arabian Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races. Marinetti who had made a smashing debut was backed to the exclusion of the rest and the favourite bounced clear in the final furlong to win the race with a great deal of ease.

Among those who recorded debut wins, Marinetti had shown class as the timing and the ease with which he had won had marked him out as one of the best three-year-olds to have run this season. This conviction was reflected in the spirited betting that the got-abroad commanded in the ring. Mon General who had failed to show his mettle at Mumbai after an impressive win on the local track, led from the start with Marinetti and Consigliori placed in a handy second position till turning for home. Jockey Akshay Kumar got busy in the stretch and Marinetti had the front-runner beat with a minimum of fuss and bounced clear to win from Consigliori. Jockey Suraj Narredu tried to get his ward Agni to improve along the rails but finding not enough gap, had to switch his horse to the outside. Agni finished on purposefully but just about failed to get the better of Consigliori in the fight for the runner-up berth.

Satheesh trained Ice Warrior came in for noticeable support in the betting ring as the odds crashed from a higher quote in the 1400 metres Mirza Zannu Ahmed Memorial Cup, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Khloe, however, continued to retain the faith of most punters. Jockey Nakhat Singh had Ice Dancer in a handy second position till turning for home. The progeny of Net Whizz stormed clear inside the final furlong to win the race with a great deal of ease by a widening margin of four lengths. Favourite Khloe had plenty of leeway to cover on the winner and all that she could have was to get the runner-up berth at the expense of Havelock Cruise.

Srinivas Reddy trained Dandy Man was the preferred horse in the 1200 metres Makalu Plate, a race for maidens restricted to four-year-olds. Dandy Man did not get a brisk start and had plenty of leeway to cover on the front-runners. His chances were also affected because he did not get a run on the inside. Despite finishing on strongly the lesser fancied runner from Donald Netto`s yard Latest News who had stolen a march in the hands of jockey Akshay Kumar, held on to win. Promiseofhappiness nosed out Hurricane to save place money

Robin Reddy trained N R I Symbol claimed the 1600 metres Artistic Tribute Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Jockey S S Tanwar had N R I Symbol race a handy third as Takisha set the pace. N R I Symbol progressed well in the stretch and had a commanding lead going into the final furlong. Vijay`s Empire covered a lot of ground in the straight to grab the second place ahead of Avantika and Euro Zone. The lower division of the race was won by Somerset who produced a powerful gallop on the outside from way off the pace to get the better of favourite Byard in the final 50 metres. Hope Is Eternal who was bidding for a hat-trick was loitering in the rear but covered a lot of leeway to edge out On My Way to save place money.

Lesser fancied Brush The Sky won the 1100 metes Nelston Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Apprentice jockey Md Ismail brought the Srinivas Reddy trained Brush The Sky with a powerful surge in the final furlong and the long shot measured the front-running Jazz It Up with ease. Bombastic also finished with a rush to clinch the second pace from Jazz It Up. Prasad Raju trained Marvel Princess who was backed to the exclusion of the rest, won the lower division of the race with a start to finish mission, drawing clear beyond the reach of the rest inside the final 200 metres. Secretary rallied late to occupy the second position ahead of Handsome Duo.

Md Ismail was also successful on the well-backed Dancing Doll in the Red Orchid Plate (Div II), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Favourite Running Fire shot ahead with a furlong left in the race but closer home was overhauled by Dancing Doll who finished powerfully. Vega Cassandra edged out Man Apart to save place money.
