Anjeze overwhelms field in Aggarwal Million

  January 25 , 2019

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Anjeze overwhelmed the opposition in the Gr 3 1200 metres Ravi Aggarwal Memorial Bangalore Winter Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races. Anjeze who had made a smashing debut, winning by a distance, confirmed the good impression he had created by winning with ease though the sprint could prove sharp for him in his future assignments.

There were two other horses which had a win to their credit, but both hadn`t been impressive. There were two debutants as well and out of that Indian Democrat who had been working well was considered as a possible threat to the favourite. Indian Democrat was slightly fractious at the gates but swiftly improved to run a handy second behind front-running Desert Rose. But he ran green and, in the stretch, he packed up to finish fourth. Anjeze who was settled in the third position was goaded to pick up speed by jockey Trevor Patel. Desert Rose put up a semblance of a challenge though in the final furlong it was clear that Anjeze would assert his supremacy. Anjeze bounced clear in the final stages of the race to win by a shade over two lengths. Star Cavalry ran on from behind to neck out Indian Democrat to snatch the third position. The winner clocked a modest time of one minute 13.55 seconds.

Sharat Kumar trained Naazaan had twice given eye-catching runner-up performances and the 1600 metres Bangalore Race Course 155th Year Commemoration Trophy, a terms race for four-year-olds and over appeared to be the right race for him to give a bold show. Naazaan, Booker Jones and Star Carnation were supported in almost equal measure. After Ultimate Warrior led into the straight and weakened, Star Carnation showed up briefly and led into the final furlong. However, the complexion of the race changed once Trevor asked for an effort from Naazaan. The fancied runner came home with a scintillating burst of speed and stormed clear to record an impressive win. Iris came from a long way back to get past Star Carnation to get the runner-up position.

The day`s racing saw several long shots pull off upset wins much to the chagrin of punters. Prasanna Kumar trained King of the Wind was backed strongly to win the 1600 metres Kumararajah M A M Muthaiah Trophy, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. King of the Wind had outstanding credentials having beaten The Invader who subsequently went on to win the Bangalore 2000 Guineas in splendid fashion. As such, King of the Wind`s form was imposing except for the long absence from the track because of physical niggles. King of the Wind was well placed inside the final furlong to make his presence felt but faltered. Long shot Ciel Etoile flew home to get the better of Shesmyscript who had stolen the initiative close home. King of the
Wind managed to head the long-time leader Akita Pro to keep the fourth position.

Pradeep Annaiah trained Marco Polo had a good forward run last time out and had a decisive chance in the 1600 metres Raichur Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Marco Polo, Constantinople and Santiago all received support almost in equal measure with Radiant Treasure too getting noticeable support in the betting ring. King Creole who struggled for pace and was tailed off last improved swiftly in the stretch, with David Allan bringing the lesser fancied runner the shortest way home. King Creole shot ahead with about 150 metres left in the race but was floored by the flourish shown by Marco Polo on the wide outside. Marco Polo won with a great deal of ease in the hands of jockey Srinath. King Creole was second ahead of Bazinga who necked out Radiant Treasure to save place money. Santiago was never prominent and finished in the ruck. Long shot Prince Charmo from the stables of trainer Samar Singh pulled off a big surprise in the lower division of the race just about getting the better of favourite Memoriter in the closing strides of the race. Smile of Joy saved place money staving off the well-backed I Do What I Do.

Lesser fancied Gold Mist from the stables of trainer Dheeraj made amends with a decisive win in the 1200 metres Premium Spirit Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Gold Mist was brought into contention with a well-timed run by jockey Suraj Narredu. Gold Mist easily collared the front-running Streak Ahead and won with a measure of comfort. Princeazeem was third while the heavily supported Agnar made no show. The lower division of the race was won by Pradeep Annaiah trained As Good As It Gets who came home with a late dash and staved off the threat of the quietly fancied Capstone to land the spoils at long odds. Favourite Look Out was in the hunt until he was overwhelmed in the final stages of the race.

Jockey Akshay Kumar packed punch in his effort to guide the lesser fancied Fierce Fighter to victory in the day`s opener, the 1400 metres Ullal Beach Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Classic Speed rallied late to take the second position of favourite Aafrikaan who had every chance but could not change gears as it were when it mattered the most.
