Lady Legend resumes winning ways

  June 15 , 2019

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Lady Legend who was a prolific performer during the last winter season, benefitted by the run behind Knotty Ash by swamping the opposition in the 1200 metres Winner`s Circle Trophy, a race for horses rated 75 and above, the feature event of Saturday`s races. The daughter of Win Legend swept the others off their feet with a facile start to finish win in an excellent timing of one minute 10.03 seconds. Arabia failed to graduate into this class and performed way below expectations.

Lady Legend was expected to have a tough fight from Arabia who had won her last outing in impressive fashion. However, the fact remained that Lady Legend had seen better company while Arabia was being thrown at the deep end. The support for Lady Legend firmed up close to race time with Arabia being totally deserted in the betting ring. Sandesh had Lady Legend lead all the way and the favourite skipped clear in the run in for home to win by a widening margin of over two lengths. Courage ran on to finish second ahead of stablemate Kambaku who showed some spark over a trip he was not accustomed to by saving place money. Arabia lost touch with the front-runners once the race came to the boil in the stretch to finish in the ruck. The fact that Kambaku could finish third itself indicates the quality of the opposition for Lady Legend was pretty run of the mill.

Prasanna Kumar trained Spiritous maintained the winning from by staving off a stiff challenge from Castaway to win the 1200 metres K N Chennabasappa Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Barring one runaway win, Treasure Delight had been a flop but over the sprint, the speedy customer was believed to make his presence felt and was made the favourite for the race. Spiritous who chased Alpha into the straight charged ahead with a furlong left in the race. Castaway made ground along the rails but fell short in the end. Hyderabad challenger Victory Parade who came in for noticeable support was well placed to strike but could not make much impression while finishing third. Treasure Delight failed to quicken in the stretch and was a beaten cause. The presence of apprentice Anthony Raj perhaps resulted in not many takers for Spiritous who ran at generous odds. War Hero was another disappointment in the race.

Port of Beauty, another winner form trainer Prasanna Kumar`s yard had it easy in the Everynsky Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Backed to the exclusion of the rest, Port of Beauty led all the way and presented Trevor Patel with an easy assignment. Silver Swift chased without hope while Antheia was faraway third. Most of the contestants looked far from being competent.

Trainer Prithviraj had a double through the well-backed Candlelightqueen and Depth Charge who won the upper and lower divisions of the Diablo Plate. Candlelightqueen who had finished a suggestive third in her last outing was backed spiritedly to win the upper division of the race ahead of Ido What I Do and the rest. Ido What I Do was prominent till turning for home but Candlelightqueen quickly asserted her supremacy in the stretch and went storming clear in the final furlong in the hands of jockey Darshan. Candlelightqueen had the race sewn up a long way from home. Tokyo Rose finished on strongly to take the second position ahead of Ido What I Do. Depth Charge was the betting rage in the lower division of the race. Jockey Dhanu Singh Deora who had a double for the day had Depth Charge assert his supremacy inside the final 300 metres. The progeny of Total Gallery quickly had the race at his mercy and won by a widening margin of five lengths. Princess Pride who led early stayed on to take the second position ahead of Lovely Sierra.

Azhar Ali trained Shivalik Kiss who had run once in her career and had twice been withdrawn on veterinary grounds had faced a serious of niggles including laminitis and sinusitis. The horse appeared to have got over her problems as the volume of money she attracted in the 1400 metres Kranji Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category indicated. Scarlet Princess also received noticeable support in the betting ring. Shivalik Kiss chased Scarlet Princess well into the straight before leaving her rival stranded way behind to win the race by a margin of five lengths. Shoban Babu was astride the winner. Scarlet Princess was second ahead of Sadaqat. The lower division of the race went the way of Inayathulla trained Glorious Days who obliged a good touch with an easy win. Purity was second ahead of Dallas. Shivalik Show who shared favouritism initially with the winner made no show and performed poorly.

Lesser fancied Wild Wild Angles from the stables of trainer Dheeraj won the Lumbini Stud Plate, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. The well-backed Nitromax took over the running within the first furlong and led by several lengths. However, in the final furlong, Nitromax could not sustain her lead as Wild Wild Angels flew home on the wide outside to record an easy win. Masada snatched the second place while Nitromax saved the place money by the skin of her teeth.
