Eastern Star wins feature on Aashay Doctor`s day

By: Goldie Boy   August 6 , 2019

Trainer Bharath Singh`s course favourite, Eastern Star (Dashrath Singh-up), scored a decisive victory in the 1,400m Make My Day Cup, Tuesday`s feature event. The trainer-jockey team was, however, left heart-broken, after their Classic aspirant, Rosina, failed to deliver the goods in the 1,400m Nero Handicap, thanks to the inspired performance of trainer Aashay Doctor`s Izzy, also a Classic hope, ridden by the visiting jockey Dhanu Deora. Aashay finished the day with a priced treble.

Eastern Star allowed trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s Amorous White (app. P. Tajeshwar) to lead a merry dance but the leader was caught and humbled by the 12/10 favourite, 200m from home.

Rosina`s hard-luck story had much to do with the facile victory of Izzy who went all over in the home-straight, despite, of course, Deora`s corrective measure. In fact, Dashrath must also share some blame for not being able to settle the 13/20 hot favourite, who was positioned along sides of Izzi, and close behind the early leaders Romantic Zeal (Hindu Singh) and Stelvio Pass (C.S. Jodha) till about 300m from home.

Deora`s desperation for galloping room, along rails, prompted the jockey to switch the course, and thus the continuous process of banging and squeezing of the favourite that followed.

Stewards and the Stipes, however, viewed the whole matter from a different angle that the world wide such incidents are, presently, considered after a close scrutiny of the winning style and that of the aggrieved party`s objection. It is a debatable issue. Most race goers, however, refused to appreciate their opinion. “They will do right the opposite when it suits them;” said a Rosina backer.

Aashay treble kicked off with the brilliant victory of Glorious Leaps (Tajeshwar) in the Azureus Handicap. The five-year-old was systematically brought down two classes and the horse paid compliment to his mentor.

Seventh Step (Deora) completed Aashay`s treble as the four-year-old filly was given peach of a ride by Delhi`s champion jockey, in the 1,800m La Gitana Handicap. Held back behind the early leaders, Panchovilla (Nikhil Naidu) and Darsh (Hindu Singh) – both from Vijay`s stable – Seventh Step, smoothly walked into the winning lead, inside the last furlong of the race.

Vijay`s Astoria (app. A.S. Peter) justified her 12/10 odds, in the 1,100m Araphoe Handicap. It was the filly`s third straight win, including the two she notched up during the ongoing season. Air Support daughter may do better after some rest.

Incendio, too, scored a back-to-back win, the colt`s first after switching the stables – from Bharath Singh`s to Javed Khan – and over a shorter sprint, to claim the 1,100m Tangiers Plate. Jockey C.S. Jodha, however, rode a waiting but a copybook race on the Win Legend colt. In the same race, Vijay Gaurish (Hindu) nearly pulled it off, almost from the start.

Trainer Shyam Habbu also had his day`s quota of a winner. The trainer`s Arashi (app. R.S. Bhati) made her own running and managed to beat Javed`s late finishing Lumos (Jodha) in the 1,100m Star Phoenix Handicap.
