Kambaku gets the Maharaja`s Cup by default

  September 20 , 2019

Trainer Arjun Mangalorkar trained Kambaku won the Gr 3 Maharaja`s Cup, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Friday`s Mysore races by default as the original winner My Opinion was disqualified following a Stewards enquiry. My Opinion drifted out alarmingly in the final stages of the race causing severe interference to favourite Shesmyscript which resulted in her jockey Trevor Patel having a bad fall. The fact that My Opinion will lose the race in the Stewards room was a foregone conclusion notwithstanding the aggressive defence put up by jockey Imran Khan.

Kambaku led the field going into the final furlong with My Opinion making his bid in the middle of the course. Kambaku shifted out in the final furlong causing the horses on the inside to all move-out but Srinath corrected the drift inside the final 100 metres. Imran Khan was unable to control the dangerous drift of My Opinion who went in the path of Shesmyscript who was beginning to gain ground on the wide outside. Shesmyscript had no escape route left as My Opinion was bang in front of her and jockey Trevor Patel had a bad fall. Trevor reportedly suffered a hairline fracture on his collar bone. Psychic Force was third ahead of Star Baron but following the disqualification of the winner, they moved up by a place.

After two dismal efforts, Rajesh Narredu trained Animal Queen was seen in true colours in the 12000 metres Ranganathittu Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Backed spiritedly, Animal Queen did not disappoint and readily carried the weight of the money. Suraj Narredu took Animal Queen on a start to finish mission and the favourite did not face any resistance from the others as she checked in by a widening margin of four lengths. Hafnium ran on to finish second ahead of the fancied Ozark and Stari Grad. The lower division of the race went the way of Parvati Byramji trained The Corporal who was making his debut. Jockey Zervan had to make free use of the whip to get the desired response. Cashmere led deep into the straight before The Corporal began to find his bearings and finished with a strong run to get the better of the front-runner and then keep the challenge of Ispelldangertoall at bay.

Two horses of trainer Sharavanan were in the fray for the 1100 metres Shimsha Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. The presence of the more accomplished Imran Chisty on Safe Bet should have got the six-year-old strong support, but it was stablemate Brave Admiral who came in for one-sided support in the betting ring. Ayahuasca led deep into the stretch with Safe Bet who was in chase shifting out under pressure. At this stage, it looked as though Brave Admiral who was finishing with a big effort would oblige expectations. However, Chisty was able to gather the horse and then ride out to get the lesser fancied runner to beat the stablemate Brave Admiral by a long neck. Ayahuasca stayed on to take the third position.

Trevor Patel finally found an elusive winner through Michael Eshwer trained Electricity who won the 1400 metres H H Sri Narasimharaja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, with a start to finish dash. Electricity had a free run in front with the only horse in the chase was Order Order who stayed put in the second position till the end. Top Striker ran on towards the close to take the third position.

Satish Narredu trained Australis once again recorded a last stride win in the 1600 metres Haveri Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. The punters were in confusion as Rajesh Narredu trained Super Dart cornered all the support in the betting ring with the odds on Australis drifting out. Jockey Trevor Patel who had a fall in the previous race was replaced in the saddle by jockey T S Jodha. Starry Grad attempted runaway tactics and very nearly succeeded but was nailed at the post by Australis who produced a powerful effort in the final furlong. Super Dart too ran on strongly to finish a close third.

Dominic trained Habanero won the Division III of the Ranganathittu Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 at nourishing odds. Sadaqat was the strong favourite with Industrialist too being backed with enthusiasm. The latter was withdrawn at the gates he was fractious and refused to be loaded. From a handy third position at the final bend, Habanero got the better of the front running Aerospeed in the final furlong and sped away for an easy win in the hands of jockey Imran Khan. Paradiso got the second spot ahead of Aerospeed who weakened to be a faraway third. Sadaqat made no show.
