Versailles completes a hat-trick with ease

By: Tippu Sultan   September 30 , 2019

Donald Netto trained Versailles, who is in imposing form, recorded her third straight win by easily accounting for Aon Aon Aon to win the 1100 metres P R Khade Memorial Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races in a record time of one minute 05.611 seconds.

Suraj Narredu had Versailles lead from the start and the progeny of Green Coast skipped clear in the final furlong to once again get the better of Aon Aon Aon whose rider apprentice Abhay Singh could not be as forceful as the winning jockey. Honest Hunter ran third ahead of the heavily supported Mon General who ran below expectations.

Laxman Singh trained Nazariya recoded an encore in the 2200 metres Almanac Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Ashwa Arjun held the initiative till the closing stages of the race before the power-packed finish by Akshay Kumar enabled the favourite to beat the former on the post in a new timing of two minutes 21.27 seconds. Alexander The Great was third ahead of Brave Warrior who rallied late but had too much leeway to cover on the front-runners.

Satheesh trained Loch Stella came in for spirited support to win the 1200 metres Grand Entry Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 25. Loch Stella who had not won for 231 days was backed down as the second favourite from a higher quote while Laxman Singh trained Hurricane who is still a maiden after 16 efforts was the strong favourite. Air Salute led from the start with Loch Stella in proximity with Hurricane in the third position. Loch Stella fought on resolutely with Air Strike before surging ahead close home. Hurricane went wide under pressure and though finished on well, he could only finish third. Ananth Vatsalya saddled his 11th winner of the season through the well-backed Handsome Duo who measured the strongly fancied Country`s Gift close home to win the lower division of the race. Cowboys Delight led deep into the straight before being overwhelmed by Country`s Gift. Jockey Ajeeth Kumar brought Handsome Duo with a well-timed run to challenge Country`s Gift in the final furlong and managed to get his ward to clinch the race by half a length. Vallee Ikon too finished on strongly to take the third position ahead of Cowboys Delight who weakened to finish fourth. Ananth has done well with the few horses that he has at his command.

Akshay Kumar drove out Mehrzad to a narrow win over City of Blossom in the 1100 metres Smt Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jockey Deepak Singh on City of Blossom was caught in a dilemma as Mehrzad did not keep a straight course first rolling on to the rails and then changing course taking the latter right across the track. City of Blossom covered a lot of ground in the end despite the interference, but it went in vain as Mehrzad clung on to the lead. Safra was third. Deepak Singh put an objection against Akshay Kumar for taking him out in the last 100 metres which cost him a certain race and the same was upheld by the Stewards resulting in City of Blossom deservedly getting the race in the Stewards room. Ravinder Singh trained Born Greek who is running every other day came out of the maidens` ranks in the Division II of the Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup. Born Greek got the measure of front-running Aristocratic Charm in the final furlong and spurted away from the field for an emphatic win. Green Turf kept Star Racer at bay to get the third position. Favourite Unstoppable was never in the hunt.

Prasad Raju trained Her Legacy who came in for big betting had no problem in winning the Division III of the Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup. After Gusty Note led the field into the straight, Buzz Light Year shot ahead but he could not keep the lead for long as Royal Legacy tackled the front-runner with a powerful effort and went sailing clear in the final furlong to win with a great deal of ease. Sterling King was faraway third.

Lesser fancied Egyptian Prince from the stables of trainer Vittal Deshmukh treated the opposition with disdain in the 1800 metres Jagityal Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Hitting the front within the first furlong, Egyptian Prince held sway in front and skipped clear in the stretch to win by a widening margin of three lengths over stablemate Durango. That`s My Magic was third. The fancied duo of Big Brave and N R I Power made no show, being lost causes well before the race came to the boil. Egyptian Prince won in a new course record time of one minute 50.87 seconds on a track which was conducive for fast timings.
