Snowdon hammers opposition in Soudha Trophy

  December 13 , 2019

Padmanabhan trained Snowdon swamped the opposition in taking style to win the 1400 metres Vidhana Soudha Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races. Backed to the exclusion of the rest after a good forward effort over a mile, Snowdon brooked no opposition to win in taking style.

Though Snowdon had shown versatility having won his three races from six furlongs to a mile, the seven-furlong trip was always considered as the most ideal for him. Snowdon received one-sided support as the odds on the others drifted out. David Allan settled Snowdon in about the fourth position as there was pace in the race with Nanhipari doing the front-running followed by Blue Moon, Land of Liberty and Snowdon. In the stretch, Snowdon easily cruised past the front-runners and went away to win by a widening margin of four lengths over Blue Moon and Cerise Noir who ran on to take the third position ahead of Peluche. Cerise Noir reportedly came back lame after the race.

Prasanna Kumar trained Indian Empress recorded an encore when easily containing the challenge of her opponents in the 1200 metres BARI Trophy, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Slice of Haven who had recorded a runaway win in his last effort in the summer season in a record timing over five and a half furlongs was made the firm favourite but the speedy customer expended his energy by running freely in front and was a beaten cause when Indian Empress who was handily placed essayed a strong challenge. Indian Empress went sailing clear to win easily in the hands of jockey V R Jagadeesh. Schafenberg finished second ahead of Kimera while the favourite disappeared without a trace in the stretch run. Indian Empress had beaten the likes of Southern Ruler in her last winning effort.

It is always difficult to back a horse trained by Sharat Kumar for multiple reasons. To begin one is not even sure whether his horse would be a serious trier irrespective of the quality of the jockey declared. Those who dared to back Barog in the day`s opener looking at the betting trend and the form of the horse once again ended up on the losing side as its pilot M Kumar proved inadequate. One doesn`t know when the jockey last won a race. John who came in for the indisposed Trevor Patel on Custom Cut managed to drive out the fancied Custom Cut to victory over Barog who went to the post as a favourite in the 1400 metres Belgaum Stakes, a race for horses rated 0 to 20. Custom Cut chased Desert Guilt well into the straight before assuming command in the final furlong. Barog who had several lengths to cover on the front-runner did so and drew level inside the final 100 metres, but the jockey could not offer the required assistance as the strongly ridden Custom Cut managed to pull it off by ¾ of a length. She`s Stylish was third. Turf Prospector who came in for good support lost considerable ground at the start and was out of the reckoning.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Simone had no problem in winning her second race in two weeks as she cantered home to win the1100 metres Chintamani Stakes (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Jockey John had no hesitation in taking Simone to the front and the speedy daughter of Air Support led all the way and skipped away in the stretch for an easy win. Charmaine who came in for big support was in touch with the front-runner but when the favourite quickened for home, the former was left behind and eventually weakened to finish fifth. Industrialist with a late dash occupied the third position ahead of Simply Magical. The quietly fancied Arrogance from the stables of trainer Rajesh Narredu won the lower division of the Chintamani Stakes. Jockey Shamaz Shareef had the speedy Arrogance lead by lengths and the front-runner held on to win from fast-finishing Queen Isabella and the late rallying favourite Perfect King. The race had a tricky look about it as the surface form was not of much help and those who went again with the heavily backed Sharat Kumar trainee Perfect King were once again left to rue their decision as the favourite came too late on the scene and missed the berth narrowly like in the day`s opener.

The well prepared Perfect Rendition who came in for smart betting in the1200 metres Bramhagiri Stakes (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35 made a smashing winning debut in the 1200 metres Bramhagiri Stakes (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Dominic trained Silver Swift was the favourite but close to race time, Perfect Rendition received sustained support to go to the post as the most preferred runner. After Elite Agent led the field into the straight, Silver Swift showed up briefly before the Prasanna Kumar trainee Perfect Rendition swooped on the field and went away for a win by an emphatic margin of six lengths. The lower division of the Bramhagiri Stakes looked like a minefield with none of the runners enjoying the good surface form. Prasanna Kumar trained Desert Combat attracted money perhaps more by default than by any conviction. Anthony Raj who had Desert Command in a striking position behind pace-setting Super Gladiator till turning for home and could not have been faulted if he thought he had the race sewn up in the final furlong as the others behind were struggling. She`s Innocent who had the benefit of a mock race suddenly emerged on the scene with a flourishing dash which took her past the front-runner in the closing strides of the race. She`s Innocent was at big odds and was guided by jockey Chetan Kalay and trained by Azhar Ali. The winner paid a whopping amount of Rs 874 on a tenner. Ruler of the Nation who was in the hunt was unable to produce that bit extra at a crucial stage of the race had to settle for the third position.
