Multifaceted records classy victory

  December 19 , 2019

Darius Byramji trained Multifaceted confirmed the impression that he would turn out to be a sprinter to reckon with in the graded races by the smashing success he achieved in the 1200 metres Dr M A M Ramaswamy Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 75 and above, the feature event of Thursday`s Bangalore races.

Multifaceted`s last three wins have come over a sprint and on one occasion when he raced over an extended trip, he failed. All the three wins over a sprint have been achieved in spectacular fashion and the progeny of Multidimensional has firmly established himself as the top sprinter of this centre who seems to be on the upgrade as each of the wins has been an improvement over the previous one.

Despite the steep penalty for the runaway win, Multifaceted was quoted at cramped odds to record an encore. Jockey Imran Chisty had Multifaceted dictate the proceedings from the word go and the speedy customer outclassed the opposition to win by a widening margin of nine lengths in a smart time of one minute 11.04 seconds. Diamond Rays necked out Air Command to get the runner-up berth.

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Cuban Pete held on resolutely to stave off the late bid of Cuban to win the 1400 metres Secretariat Trophy, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Cuban Pete had in the past flattered to deceive by weakening in the final furlong but this time out, the progeny of Western Aristocrat who chased Magic Stream into the straight quickly established a sizeable led which held him in good stead. Cuban who was at the rear of the field produced a strong effort but ran out of ground in the end. Cuban should appreciate a step up in distance.

Dominic trained Anne Bole appeared to be more forward than the other debutants in the 1200 metres Kokkarebellur Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. The progeny of Top Class swept into the lead from the start and accomplished the mission by a widening margin of five lengths over Classic Charm. Cavallini who was given a light ride by jockey Vaibhav came from way off the pace to snatch the third place from Johnny Brave to advertise his readiness to be seen in a more positive role next time out.

The 1400 metres Linganamakki Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category looked like a minefield as none of the runners had any good surface form. But one has noticed that such races are always won by the fancied ones with the betting trend giving a good indication of the shape of things to come because the form is well disguised in such a scenario. Pradeep Annaiah trained Proud Wish was the nominal favourite ahead of High Tide. The latter led the field into the straight before Proud Wish stormed ahead approaching the final furlong and went away for a comfortable by a margin of over four lengths. Bazinga ran on to take the second spot ahead of South Bell. High Tide weakened to finish fourth.

After being beaten close home on the last occasion, Arjun Mangalorkar trained Star And Garter was expected to have it easy in the 2000 metres Nilgiris Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35 but the filly did not have things easy. The quietly fancied Aferpi put up stiff resistance before an all-out effort on the part of jockey John saw the favourite put her neck in front at the all-important end. After Mighty Red did the pacesetting and weakened at the top of the straight, Aferpi took charge with Star And Garter joining issue in the final furlong. The two fought all the way till the post before the favourite managed to land her maiden win. Mighty Red stayed on to take the third position.

Promising apprentice jockey J H Arul got the second win of his career when he drove out favourite Aceros to stave off the challenge of Premier Premises and the late-finishing Zehnaseeb to land the spoils in the 1100 metres Longchamp Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Aceros had dropped jockey Srinath on the opening race of the season as a favourite following Will To Win going down which subsequently led to riots and cancellation of remaining races of the day. Backed strongly to oblige, Aceros was handled adeptly by Arul who brought the favourite into strong contention in the final furlong to measure the front-running Premier Premises in the closing strides of the race. Zehnaseeb finished with a rush but found the winning post coming too soon.
