Bernardini maintains winning streak

  January 17 , 2020

Irfan Ghatala trained Bernardini extended his winning streak to four when easily accounting for the opposition in the 1600 metres Kempe Gowda Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races. Punters found it hard to pick winners as there were quite a few horses winning against the run of expectations.

Bernardini has been showing improvement with each run and hence it was not surprising that he was strongly favoured to record the fourth win in succession despite all the penalty that he had incurred. Jockey Umesh rode a confident race, taking the favourite to the front within the first furlong. Bernardini had an uncontested lead, came into the straight a couple of lengths clear of the rest and then had no problems in staying clear of the others while checking home by a margin of over two lengths. Mystic Flame gave a chase, but it was bound to go futile as Bernardini kicked clear and won without coming under pressure. Velocidad ran on from behind but just about failed to get the better of Mystic Flame to get the runner-up berth. Into The Groove who raced up with the pace was a close fourth.

Padmanabhan trained Rani Jindan made an impressive debut in the 1200 metres Black Caviar Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The daughter of Win Legend showed plenty of speed to take a handy second position from the outside draw behind pace-setter Arlette. In the stretch the moment David Allan asked for a change of gears, Rani Jindan responded well and bounced clear and had the race sewn up a long way from home. Favourite Sherwin lacked the early speed and by the time he could rally, the race was beyond his reach. Nisus put in a good effort along the rails to be a suggestive third. Rani Jindan who is bred as a full sister to classic winning Punjab Girl appears promising.

Irfan Ghatala trained Show Girl showed good improvement when trouncing the opposition in the 1400 metres Yedamuri Falls Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Show Girl had won last time out in the same class and surprisingly she could run at nourishing odds despite the others in the fray not having good surface form. From a handy third position at the final bend, Show Girl progressed well in the stretch and stormed clear in the final furlong to win as she pleased by six lengths in the hands of jockey Vaibhav. Adela was second ahead of Winx.

Singhsaab from the stables of veteran trainer Samar Singh swept everyone off their feet en route to a facile win in the 1100 metres Gadag Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Singhsaab hit the from the word go and had no problem in staying clear of the rest by a margin of over three lengths in the hands of experienced apprentice jockey M Naveen. Estella gave a chase in vain. Mrs Thatcher who was running after a layoff of 181 days ran on to take the third position despite essaying a sharp trip considering her breeding. Favourite Silver Swift was not spotted to have any chance in the race.

Samar Singh had earlier in the day led in a long-priced winner through Dallas who swamped the opposition in impressive fashion in the lower division of the 1200 metres Premium Spirit Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Apprentice jockey Arvind Kumar had Dallas in a handy second position behind Smile of Peace. The lesser fancied runner got strong in the final furlong and stormed clear to win by a margin of over three lengths despite drifting out in the final stages of the race. The heavily supported Zehnaseeb was a big disappointment finishing a dismal third.

Royal Resolution who had slipped at the start last time out and clipped the front-runner and was badly affected by the chain reaction made amends when winning the 1200 metres Makybe Diva Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50. David Allan took Royal Resolution who was surprisingly quoted at long odds to the front from the outside draw and the progeny of Western Aristocrat stayed put there to win by a margin of two lengths over late rallying Aceros and Wings of Desire. Secretsuperstar was backed to the exclusion of the rest but the favourite despite being in touch with the front-runner failed to quicken effectively to have any say at the finish and petered out in the final furlong. After a few indifferent runs, Darius Byramji trained Benediction was seen in earnest, hitting the front from the wide outside draw and then enjoying a healthy lead all through the race to record a comfortable win at big odds. Simone was second ahead of favourite Yerwazan. Kishan Thomas trained Look Out pulled off a win in the upper division of the race at nourishing odds with a strong run down the final furlong. Look Out managed to stave off the late bid of favourite She`s Innocent who warmed up to the task rather late and had to settle for the second spot. Amazonite who raced up with the field stayed on save place money.

Prasanna Kumar trained Carona Del Corsa who was running after a break of 101 days made a winning return this season staving off the late bid of favourite Excellent Sorrento to land the spoils in the 1400 metres Dharwad Plate, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Akita Pro had the first run on her rivals and shot ahead inside the final furlong but could not sustain the lead as jockey Akshay Kumar found his way along a narrow passage pace-setter Good Time Indeed and Akita Pro and shot ahead and managed to win by a half a length over Excellent Sorrento. Akita Pro was another neck behind.
