Arrowfield thrashes opposition

By: Goldie Boy   February 19 , 2020

Trainer Javed Khan`s five-year-old horse, Aerrofield (Imran Chisty), advertised his form and improvement while taking the measure of his eight rivals to land the 1,600m Governor`s Cup, Wednesday`s feature event. The field was very well represented as trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s New England spearheaded the opposition`s challenge but all of them failed to do anything worthwhile. However, Jaiswal finished the afternoon`s seven-event card with a priced double. Trainers Christopher Alford and Vijay Singh, too, were also among winners. Each of the two also notched up a double apiece.

The fact that Arrowfield had reeled of a treble, soon after switching headquarters – from western India to the RCTC. It was considered at that point of time that the Phoenix Tower son had reached his mark in the handicap. More so because none of his contemporaries in the West were able to do anything significant in upper classes that would indicate enhance winning chances of Arrowfield against a reasonably strong Wednesday`s field.

Arrowfield defied such logics but it must be said that the six-week rest, since his hurried treble had done wonder. The 3/1 chance in the betting, literally, thrashed the opposition with an indication that more wins are in the pipeline.

A planned double by the Javed`s connections, met with a jolt when Chisty`s other ride, Devine Chakra, a 7/4 favourite in the 1,100m Rotary District 3291 Cup, met with an interference and was sandwiched out of contention early in the race, leaving the Jaiswal`s fancied speedster, Fencia Mist (P.S. Chauhan) in a total command and triumph handsomely.

Much was expected from Neil Darasha`s horse, Peluche (Trevor Patel) in the 1,600m Pokerguru Cup but the visitor was rusty in his performance and perhaps needed the run. The race was won by Viay`s failed-favourite in her last start, Valeria, ridden by C.S. Jodha. Jodha had the 9/2 chance settled behind Arti-Aashay Doctor`s pair of Pelicon (R.S. Bhati) and Seventh Step till nearing the final turn and sped up to lead and score from them.

Darsh (Suraj Narredu) provided Vijay with early success. The 7/2 shot shot scored purely on superior horsemanship, combined with a listless running of the 5/2 favourite, Classico (Jodha).

Another example of superior riding and judgment was provided by Trevor on Alford two winners – Sullivan and Guitar Girl. Both were subjected to waiting races to score narrowly.
