Suraj Narredu, Netto dominate Sunday`s racing

By: Tippu Sultan   December 6 , 2020

Jockey Suraj Narredu enjoyed yet another fruitful outing on Sunday, booting home four winners in a card of eight events including Premier Action which won the 1600 metres Time And Place Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Sunday`s Hyderabad races. Donald Netto trained Lagos made an impressive winning debut, swamping the opposition in taking style to herald her arrival as a horse of immense promise. Netto had a treble for the day.

On the basis of her good forward run, Sequeira trained British Empress was the strong fancy to win the race. Big Brave set a decent pace with Call of the Blue in the second position while British Empress was not far behind. Premier Action was several lengths adrift. Rounding the final turn, Call of the Blue quickly sorted out Big Brave and surged ahead. British Empress essayed a big challenge but Call of the Blue pulled out that bit extra to retain the initiative. However, his hopes were put paid by Premier Action who was produced with a sustained burst of speed by jockey Suraj Narredu. Premier Action was able to subdue Call of the Blue in the dying moments of the race. The winner is trained by Leo D`Silva.

With the benefit of a race run, Srinivas Reddy trained Ashwa Jauhar looked in fine shape to have a bold show in the 1100 metres Grace Hanover Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Ashwa Jauhar showed plenty of speed to dash into a big lead from the start and was in no danger of being stretched by any of the runners. Ashwa Jauhar was hailed a winner a long way from home. By The Bay gave a futile chase while occupying the second position ahead of Jarvis who was four lengths adrift in the third position.

Donald Netto trained Lagos recorded a smashing win in the 1400 metres Cabaret Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Apprentice jockey R S Jodha was able to settle Lagos in the third position after racing keenly in front for the first three furlongs as she got cover as Crazy Horse and Explosive shot ahead. After being angled out in the stretch to get a clear run, Lagos accelerated tremendously and left those in front and the others coming from behind stranded with a blistering run to win impressively. Crazy Horse was second more than five lengths ahead of Explosive and a host of horses who finished in close order.

Donald Netto trained Incredulous swept the others off their feet from the word `go` and was untroubled by any of the runners en route to success in the 1200 metres Tic Toc Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Jockey Kumar was not required to do anything extra other than steering the lesser fancied runner. Apollo who had a slightly hampered passage early on was brought very wide into contention but the leeway was too much to bridge and the fancied runner had to settle for the runner-up berth. Makram stayed on to save place money. Suraj Narredu drove out Sreekant trained Strategist to record an encore in the lower division of the race. Wah Ms Zara attempted runaway tactics by bolting to the front and led by lengths into the final furlong. Strategist who was alerted to the task by Suraj responded well and collared the front-runner inside the final 100 metres and sped away for a comfortable win. Hidden Hope ran on to take the third spot.

Sreekant trained Magic Street provided jockey Suraj Narredu with an easy win in the 1200 metres Himayat Sagar Plater (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Magic Street stormed ahead from the jump out and led by lengths to eventually check-in by a widening margin of three lengths. Balius nosed out Story Teller to get the second position in a cluster finish. Deepak Singh packed punch in his finish on Shiloh to enable the five-year-old mare to beat last start winner Marvel Princess close home to clinch the issue in the lower division of the race. Marvel Princess led from the word `go` and under sustained pressure, failed to produce that bit extra and had to settle for the second spot from fast-finishing Solo Winner and Brush The Sky.
