Cerise Noir records an encore in Ramaswamy Trophy

  January 16 , 2021

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Cerise Noir recorded an encore by staving off the challenge of Psychic Warrior to win the 1200 metres Dr M A M Ramaswamy Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 75 and above, the feature event of Saturday`s Bangalore races. Cerise Noir once again accounted for Psychic Warrior who enjoyed favouritism this time out. For the record, not a single favourite obliged in the eight-event card.

Psychic Warrior who had recently migrated to trainer Dheeraj`s stables was considered to have a better chance to win vis-à-vis his last run against Cerise Noir. Jockey Akshay Kumar had Psychic Warrior call the shots from the word `go` but in the final furlong, was strongly confronted by Cerise Noir who in the strong hands of jockey Suraj Narredu got stronger close to home. In a cluster finish, Silver Ikon grabbed the third position.

The race for first season runners, the 1100 metres Flashing Star Plate had an open look about it as all of them were running for the first time in their career. Based on the trackwork and public perception as supported by the track reporters, Perfect Empress was more favoured to win ahead of the rest. Lesser fancied Cool Rider who ran green and even missed a stride in the early part of the race was deftly managed by jockey Srinath. The jockey angled out Cool Rider in the stretch and the progeny of Phoenix Tower covered the ground with brisk strides and stormed clear in the final furlong for a decisive win over Perfect Empress. Cool Raider appears a good type of youngster. Tommy Shelby was a surprise third ahead of the more favoured Moon`s Blessing.

Ganapathy trained Silver Dew who had gone down narrowly last time out made amends with a resolute win in the 1400 metres Kempe Gowda Cup, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Good Time Indeed who hadn`t seen the winning post for a long time raced ahead of the pack but in the final furlong was sorted out by Silver Dew who produced a powerful run in the hands of jockey Darshan and won by a margin of over three lengths. Good Time Indeed stayed on to neck out Harbour Sunrise to keep the runner-up berth. Crack of Dawn who had big supporters turned out to be one-paced and could not make her mark over this trip.

Prasanna Kumar trained First Impression won his second straight race in the 1200 metres Daria Daulat Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Last start winner Golden Vision was strongly backed to record an encore with considerable support coming for Jack Ryan to make amends. First Impression was at nourishing odds. The long shot from the stables of Pradeep Annaiah, Lagopus nearly threatened to spoil the party for all the fancied runners by leading from the start and refusing to give up. However, Akshay Kumar was able to induce a strong run from First Impression who managed to collar the front-runner closer to home. Jack Ryan who appeared to have slipped or walked from the gates, rallied well to finish third. He surely needs a longer distance to be more effective. Golden Vision was surprisingly off colour. Despite the fact that Prasanna Kumar trained Cherokee Moon had run more than 15 lengths behind the field on the last occasion, he was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the lower division of the race. Realia`s poor performance was attributed to the malfunction with the bit. However, Realia found the going tough as Cherokee Moon who is in good form, had the race sewn up in the final furlong without much ado. Realia could only take the second position ahead of Anne Boleyn.

Padmanabhan trained Livisilla had served notice of an early win when she had finished a noteworthy second in her last outing. Backed strongly to oblige, the progeny of Win Legend produced a strong run on the wide outside to beat the opposition with a measure of comfort in the 1600 metres Chamundi Hill Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Jockey Neeraj Rawal rode a waiting race and made his move at the final bend. Garamond who had twice been withdrawn from the fray was strongly fancied to win but he could do no better than finish second best. Royal Blossom necked out Smithsonian to save place money while Redoubtable ran below expectations.

A good touch was brought off on Neil Darashah trained Celestial Highway who kept the challenge of favourite Anakin at bay in the 1200 metres Kalinadi Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Five-year-old mare Celestial Highway who was running only for the third time in her career had a forward run last time out when finishing about seven lengths behind the winner. Racing up with the field, jockey Nazerul Alam drove out Celestial Highway to contain a strong challenge from last start winner and favourite Anakin. Chantelle ran on to take the third position.

In a race which looked like a minefield, Kishan Thomas trained Hawking won the 1400 metres Hassan Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class, at fancy odds. The race was reserved for the apprentices. Apprentice Arvind Kumar managed to drive out Hawking to keep the challenge of the more fancied Prime Star and Happy Dancing at bay. Hawking returned the highest dividend on the tote.
