Asad Siddiqui trained Jimbo scraped home to record a thrilling win over Franz Ferdinand and Glorious Eyes to claim the 1200 metres Display House Sprint, a race for horses rated 40 to 86 which featured the races held on Saturday at Mumbai. For the record, jockey Sandesh who has hit a poor patch was astride Franz Ferdinand and on his day, he would have surely converted this defeat into victory. Sandesh doesn’t seem to be getting anything right these days.

Franz Ferdinand who was a late rallying second to Ancient Star, received strong support ahead of Glorious Eyes and the rest. Sandesh failed to get favourable position on Franz Ferdinand who was in the rear group. In the straight itself, Sandesh, having committed to coming on the inside changed course and let the horses on his outside move away from him before bringing his horse on the wide outside. The eight-year-old Jimbo had by then nosed ahead of Glorious Eyes. Though Franz Ferdinand finished with a rattle, he could only finish second best, a neck shy from the winner. Glorious Eyes was a close third. If Sandesh had got things right, Franz Ferdinand would surely have been a comfortable winner.

H Daji trained Texas Gold recorded a dramatic win in the 1600 metres JD & Peggy Banatwalla Trophy, a race for three-year-olds. Texas Gold was an impressive late rallying third to Daffodils in his last outing. Backed spiritedly to win the race, Texas Gold gave anxious moments to his supporters by struggling for speed in the early part of the race and had to be urged to improve position from the rear. But in the straight, there wasa remarkable transformation as the progeny of Chinese Whisper got into his stride, devoured ground and then won by a widening margin of five lengths. Gloriosus got the runner-up berth in the final stride over Collegium.

Shiraz Sunderji trained Traherne was assertive in his repeat win in the 1400 metres T M Goculdas Plate, a race for horses rated 60 to 86. Jockey C S Jodha eased Traherne in the rear as Streetjammer set the pace. Traherne produced a powerful gallop in the straight to have the race sewn up a long way from home. Favourite Alishas Pet came up with a flourish in the straight but could not sustain it and eventually had to settle for the third place behind Streetjammer.

Nextstar had the benefit of a strong forward run in her last outing and the Imtiaz Sait trainee looked ready to win the 1000 metre Jockeys Trophy, a race for three-year-olds as the trip also suited the speedy progeny of Stern Opinion remarkably well. Jodha had Nextstar leading from the word 'go’ and the favourite quickened well in the run in for the home to win the race with a measure of comfort. Optimum just about managed to nose out Arc Shine to get the runner-up berth.

Sanjay Kolse trained Firenze showed intent from the start as he raced in a striking position in the 1600 metres Ronaldo Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46 and asserted her supremacy in the final furlong to win the race as she pleased. King of Killen who moved up from behind with raking strides, threatened the eventually runner briefly but petered out to finish second best. Care Free ran on to save place money.

QED who had two unproductive runs in the last two seasons was seen in different light in the 1200 metres Jehan Numa Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Neeraj Rawal had QED take command from the start. QED was lucky to scrape home as Ame warmed up to the task rather too late and missed the berth by a narrow margin. Winds of Change headed Eagle Spirit to claim the third place.

In an absorbing finish, Arif Patel trained Speed of Sound finally obliged in the 1000 metres Trainers Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 46, by managing to overhaul Locarno in the final stride of the race. Inside the final furlong, Locarno appeared to have the race in her control as Speed of Sound was taking time to warm up. Under a relentless ride by jockey Dashrath Singh, Speed of Sound got the nod in the nick of time. Rare Silver edged out Eagle Spirit for the third place.

Imtiaz Sait who has rallied to come very close to the tally achieved by trainer Pesi Shroff, had the second winner of the day when Frosted won the 1400 metres A Hoyt Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class. Apprentice jockey Raghuveer Singh took Frosted on a start to finish bid and the progeny of Phoenix Tower stayed clear of the rest to record an emphatic win. Star Scholar was second ahead of Happy Birthday. Trevelyan ran way below expectations.
