Darius Byramji trained Prevalent Force confirmed his status as one of the best three-year-olds in the country with yet another assertive performance in the Gr 2 Golconda 2000 Guineas, the second classic of the season on Monday at Malakpet. The progeny of Multidimensional who is already a dual classic winner, was only required to complete the formalities of completing the trip with the others in the fray left to fight for minor spoils.

Prevalent Force went to the post with the bookmakers practically not giving any odds. It was understandable because the others did not match up either on rating or on their performance. Stand Out led the field from the start with Zelus and Dream Catcher in close proximity while Prevalent Force was settled in about the fourth position. Srinath sat on Prevalent Force was unperturbed by the activity in front and began to make his move only in the final 300 metres. Prevalent Force sailed past the front-running Dream Catcher to record a handsome win. Dream Catcher who was attempting to make a quantum jump, had taken over the running from the pace-setter with two furlongs left in the race and ran on resolutely. Tootsie Roll who was at the wrong end of the field, rallied well to neck out Dream Catcher for the runner-up berth. Zelus weakened to finish fourth while Destined Dynamite ran below expectations.

Trainer Satheesh who has been enjoying a great season, led in a winner through Prince Caspian who recorded an encore in the 1400 metres Golden Dagger Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Prince Caspian led aggressively in front and despite drifting out of a straight course in the final furlong, had enough cushion to win from late rallying Supremo. Eternal Angel who shaped to pose a stiff challenge to the eventual winner with a strong run along the rails, failed to sustain and had to settle for the third position.

Satyanarayana trained Pentagon brought off a quiet touch in the 1100 metres Dr M A M Ramaswamy Memorial Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Apprentice jockey Naresh had Pentagon in the lead along with Seven Colours before pushing his horse to take charge in the homestretch. Pentagon shot ahead with a furlong to go and had no problem in keeping the lead from the late-finishing Astra and Vallee Sceptre whose strong efforts went in vain as the post came too soon for their comfort. Vittal Deshmukh trained Paprika had no problems in winning the lower division of the race, firmly controlling the race in front from the start. Though Mirfield closed in with a rush, Paprika was not threatened. Numinous got the third position ahead of Oh Dear.

The 1200 metres Members Plate (Div I) saw three horses namely Champion Bull, Apowerx and Yanga attract spirited betting. Apowerx tried to win the race from the start but in the final furlong, was strongly challenged by Champion Bull who asserted his supremacy closer home. Yanga had her chances but failed to change gears as it were and plodded home to be third. Favourite So Far added to the growing list of failed favourites from trainer Netto’s stables when the progeny of Burden of Proof ran into all sorts of problems, unable to display speed and finishing poorly. Turf Legend came from way off the pace to down Heaven Can Wait to win the race. Raja Hindustani had all the chances except the additional gear and had to settle for the third place.

Laxman Singh trained Rahil had no problem in tackling the front-running Classic Remark in the final furlong and win the 1200 metres King Rama Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds in impressive fashion. The progeny of Whatsthescript proved that she was spot on for the race. Once More drifted out under pressure but still kept the third position as the others were too backward for comfort.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Vijay’s Harmony managed to get the better of Kohinoor Legend, the only challenger on the horizon to win the 1800 metres Kuntala Plate, a race for horses rated up to 30. Kohinoor Legend who had the first run on his conqueror, drifted out and Vijays Harmony who slipped through along the rails, had no problem in finishing ahead of his only pursuer. Princess was third.
