Noshir Cama trained Double Nine readily justified the expectations of the racing public by accounting for the opposition in the 1000 metres Abeeta Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 66, the highest rated event of the evening races held at Mumbai on Thursday.

Double Nine had all the credentials in the modest field that was in the fray. Though Double Nine drifted out alarmingly to the outer side of the track in the final furlong, the progeny of Stern Opinion was good enough to spare more than two lengths to late-finishing Furious N Fast who held off Rosella and Domination to grab the runner-up berth. After being prominent till the final stages of the race, Glorious Land weakened to go out of sight.

The victory of Vishal Gaikwad trained Roosevelt for considered a formality as the got-abroad three-year-old gelding towered over the opposition in the 1400 metres Rapidash Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Roosevelt was quoted at very cramped odds while the rest were all at big odds. Soon after the start, much to the shock of the race goers, Sandesh went down, his horse possibly missing a stride or clipping the front-runner. Moonshine who was drawn wide and in danger of being pushed out, was cleverly manoeuvred by jockey Srinath to stay in touch with the front-runners. Moonshine was set alight in the homestretch and the progeny of Rebuttal gained firm control of the race in the final furlong and went away for a comfortable repeat win. Rotterdam managed to save the second position from the late-finishing Harmony of the Sea.

The 1000 metres Aldebrugh Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46, looked like a minefield and winner-picking was a hazardous guess. Locarno and Speed of Sound were considered to have a reasonable chance of pulling it off and accordingly had more takers than the rest. In the event, Locarno who held the initiative going into the final furlong was overhauled close home by Backstreet Bay who produced a big effort to win the race at long odds. Name Of The Game necked out Speedo to get the third place while Speed of Sound put up a pathetic performance.

Adhiraj Jodha trained Blitzkrieg obliged as a strong favourite in the 1000 metres Beautiful Stranger Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Apprentice jockey D S Daman took Blitzkrieg on a start to finish mission and the favourite skipped clear in the closing stages of the race to record a comfortable win. Abraxas was second ahead of Knight At Arms. The lower division of the race went the way of Antia trained Bee Quirky who successfully managed to stay in front from the word 'go’ and did not give any chance to stablemate and favourite Bohemian to catch up with her. Reality occupied the third slot.

Two long shots were involved in a close finish for the 1400 metres Dhun P Kothavala Trophy, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The presence of visiting jockey David Probert on Counsellor perhaps could be the reason why this debutant was more fancied than the rest. The visiting jockey was soon to realize that he was on a lazy horse who graced the wrong end of the field and his vigorous riding right through the race ensured that the progeny of Mull of Kintyre at least finished fourth. Rincon who shot ahead with 200 metres left in the race saw off the sustained pressure exerted by Arrecife to land the spoils. Huzzah’s Grace just about stayed on to get the third place from Counsellor.

C Rajendra trained Silver Edge chased favourite Dazzling Eyes into the straight before asserting his supremacy in the 2400 metres Machiavellianism Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Dazzling Eyes packed up and eventually finished a dismal last. Care Free was second while Lucky Luciano, after much vigorous riding and persuasion, covered some ground in the straight to finish third.

Glorious Eyes recorded a narrow win in the 1800 metres Murioi Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 66, in an absorbing finish. Favourite Zanara led from the start and had to endure a spirited challenge from Glorious Eyes all the way in the straight. The latter eventually managed to put her neck in front at the all-important end. Take Five too made a determined bid and came home with a menacing effort but fell short in the end.
