Amorous White wins a thriller on Vikash Jaiswal Day

Trainer Vikash Jaiswal was on a roll on Tuesday. He saddled four winners, including, Amorous White (PS Chauhan-up), a 10/1 shot, in the 1,400m Stewards Cup, the afternoon’s main attraction in the seven-event card. Chauhan, in fact, also helped the trainer win two more priced but fancied winners to take his day’s tally to three.

Incidentally, favourites, once again, proved big letdowns during the afternoon.

Chauhan made his task simpler on Vikash’s, main hope, Amorous White, by taking the grey horse to a start-to-finish mission. However, his task was made slightly easier by another visiting jockey, Neeraj Rawal who rode the even-money favourite, Multitude. Neeraj kept the mighty sprinter, up with trainer Javed Khan’s fancied runner, Brahmachari (C.S. Jodha) who raced directly behind the winner from the start of the race. Multitude is known to produce a strong finish when ridden in check. Ask the local champion Christopher Alford who had won many a races in similar fashion on the Multidiamensional son.

As a results of this Multitude had very little left in the tank when asked for the final effort in the last 200m of the race. In fact, Neeraj made his visit to the city look like a man who was on a sight seeing tour. The visiting jockey may have little to offer in the matter of his defence, pertaining to the defeat of trainer Harvinder Bath’s 9/4 Favourite, Fiorelle (Neeraj), in the concluding event, the 1,800m Poles Apart Handicap; which was claimed by Vikash’s Jester (Chauhan) who was backed from 5’s down to 3/1, about five minutes before the start of the race.

Neeraj rode Fiorelle well off the pace is understandable but galloping six-wide through out the trip is something not expected from a champion rider of his calibre.

Expectations are always high from the likes of Rawals, Trevors and Narrredus. It may have been Neeraj’s off day.

Jester, in the same race, was ridden, in a copy-book manner by Chauhan, who had the winner settled in the mid-division of the seven-horse field before doing the needful.

The winning partnership between the two stars of the afternoon started from the day’s start when Jaiswal’s My Lady Luck (Chauhan) delivered the goods in 1,400m Two In One Handicap. Backed down to 9/4 the five-year-old, who was kept among the first five, and was moved on the wide out to score from the late finishing stable-mate, Hail The Queen, ridden by Vikash’s kin Vinay.

Vinay Jaiswal, too, got his share of winnings. In the 1,200m As Ever Handicap, he caused the maximum damage to punters’ interest while guiding an old warhorse like Knighthood to add to his brother’s day’s tally. The eight-year-old was brought with a thundering run from rear to stump trainer Richard Alford’s heavily fancied runner, Sheer Force (Anil Baandal), at the post.

The big guns like Singh brothers, Vijay and Bharath, also fired but only marginally. Vijay saddled Fantasia (Nikhil Naidu) to victory, the filly’s third in-a-row, when she easily claimed the 1,800m Crown Rule Handicap from Bath’s fancied runner, Dixie Diamond. The two horses jumped into the fray in the home stretch after many a leads were changed in the seven-horse field.

Bharath, too, saddle a winner, Simon Templar (Dashrath Singh) who made it easy for himself, going from pillar-to-post in the 1,400m Elena Handicap. The winner faced some challenge in the dying minutes of the race when trainer Javed Khan’s Alien (Jodha) was brought with a threatening run.

Javed, however, had his pick, too, when his long shot, The Last Judgement (Jodha), decided to put his best foot forward to dash Singh brothers’ hopes Yuvan (Naidu) and the even-money favourite, Ghost Creek (Dashrath) in the baby race, the 1,200m Awesome Indian Plate.
