Laxman Singh trained Exclusive Blue halted the winning run of Prince Valiant in the 1600 metres Speaker’s Cup, a race for horses rated 60 to 85, the feature event of Sunday’s Hyderabad races. Prince Valiant had remained unbeaten in his last four runs on the local track though in between these wins, the highly regarded horse had failed to perform to expectations during his sojourn at Pune.

Jockey Ajeeth Kumar failed to position Prince Valiant at an advantageous position so much so that it was a herculean task for the favourite to catch up with Exclusive Blue who had opened a big cushion. Jockey Ashhad Asbar had Exclusive Blue racing in a handy position behind pace-setter Havelock Cruise before taking charge at the top of the straight. The lesser fancied runner bounced clear and had the race sewn up a long way from home. By the time Prince Valiant was sighted making his bid on the wide outside from way off the pace, the race was as good as over and the finishing burst of the favourite could only fetch the second place ahead of Shaquille. Exclusive Blue was winning after a long gap of 315 days.

Faisal Hassan trained Ayur Shakti had it easy in the 1400 metres Sardar Mohan Singh Bagga Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Irvan Singh got a fine opening along the rails inside the final 300 metres and Ayur Shakti had the speed to shoot through to win from the long-time leader Sporting Smile whose cause was affected because of drifting out under pressure. Marinetti failed to show the spark to make a difference to the outcome of the race and was in fact hard-pressed to retain the third place from Angel Tesoro. Trainer Satheesh is finding his wards inadequate at the finishing after leading all the way. This has been the story of his horses for the last season or so. Flamboyant Lady shaped like a winner by having a useful leading going into the final furlong, but closer home weakened which allowed favourite Galloping Gangster to neck out the lesser fancied runner. Reno Star too finished with a rush and was only a short head behind the runner up.

Satyanarayana trained Whiskey Martini made an impressive debut in the 1200 metres Solitaire Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. The victory of Netto trained Kapell Bruke was taken for granted going by the cramped odds quoted for the success of the favourite. Kapell Bruke had the lead going into the final furlong but had no answer when Whiskey Martini swooped on him in the final furlong. Whiskey Martini went away for an impressive win. Team Player held off Chuckit to save place money.

Waseem Khan trained Vallee Ikon brought off an upset win in the 1100 metres Olympic flame Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Vallee Ikon led from the start and despite drifting out of a straight course, had enough ammunition to win with a measure of comfort. Brave Syera held off Yogya to get the second position. The lower division of the race saw the heavily supported Blazing Speed produce a brilliant turn of foot to measure the front-running Coconut Coast in the closing stages of the race. Ashwa Yudh Vijeta ran on to finish third.

Satheesh trained Red River chased Original Temptress into the straight before storming clear in the stretch to record an easy win in the 1600 metres Cyndy Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Maxwell who was loitering in the rear came up with a good homestretch run to take the second position ahead of Jo Malone.
