Laxman Singh trained Downtown Gal who had placed third in the Guineas had it easy in the 1600 metres Thunder Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the main event of Hyderabad races held on Wednesday. The progeny of Multidimensional who was strongly backed along with Mirana, quickly grabbed the advantage at the final turn and had the race sewn up a long way from home.

Mirana who had finished ahead of Downtown Gal on the last occasion with a late flourish was more strongly fancied than Downtown Gal. The latter was getting 1.5 kgs this time out beside the fact that Downtown Gal had fought with the eventual winner Lombardy before weakening close to home while Mirana had surged past the tiring horse. Jockey Neeraj Rawal had Downtown Gal handily placed and though the one-eyed filly took the final turn very wide, Downtown Gal quickly shot past the pace-setter Egyptian Prince and established a winning lead. Mirana, as is her wont, came up late on the scene and had no chance of overhauling the front-runner. Spicy Star nosed out Super Angel to save place money.

The persevering effort on the part of jockey Trevor Patel enabled Ravinder Singh trained Wah Ms Zara to nail Incredulous in the closing strides of the 1100 metres Olympic Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Incredulous shaped to win as she looked like keeping the challenge of Wah Ms Zara at bay. However, the latter finished strongly under a powerful ride by Trevor and managed to pull it off. Favourite Xfinity who was bidding for a hat-trick ran on well but could only finish a length adrift of the winner.

The benefit of a forward run helped Donald Netto trained The Prospect to have a decisive say in the 1100 metres Dancer Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The Prospect led from the start in the hands of jockey Vikrant and spared more than two lengths at the finish to Keystone. Bruno was third. The Prospect is the progeny of champion Indian racehorse Be Safe which is standing at the Saint Craintes Stud Farm.

Sreekant trained Advance Guard was driven out for a facile win in the 1400 metres Northern Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Favourite NRI Touch led from the start but at the bend, went slightly wide which gave a dream opening to Advance Guard. Suraj was quick to pounce on the fortuitous opening and pushed Advance Guard who had the speed to scoot through. Advance Guard had enough cushion to stave off the late charge of Moringa and Sputnic. NRI Touch weakened to finish fourth. Trevor was responsible for the victory of the fancied Srinivas Reddy trainee Look of Love who put up a resolute effort to get the better of Beautiful Luv in the dying moments of the race in the lower division. Belle Springs too was closing on strongly.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Brisbane pulled off a last stride win over Dunkirk in the 1400 metres Trial Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Dunkirk had the lead all through the straight with apprentice jockey Surya Prakash going all out on Brisbane who responded well and managed to nose out the front-runner in the bobbing of heads. NRI Vision necked out Barbosella to save place money. The lower division of the race was won by Sreekant trained Maxwell who proved too good for the opposition, winning with a measure of comfort to provide some consolation for the trainer who had lost the upper division of the race by a whisker. Promiseofhappiness was second ahead of Once More.

The first race of the day itself set the tone for the close finishes that witnessed in the other races of the day. Satheesh trained Blissful rallied well to nail Chuckit in the final stride of the race to win the 1200 metres Fire Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The finish was so close that it was not possible to identify the winner without the help of the photo-finish camera. Four One Four was third.
