Brilliant View wins in record time

By: Tippu Sultan   November 30 , 2021

Laxman Singh trained Brilliant View won the 1100 metres Salar Jung Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Tuesday`s Hyderabad races in a new course record time of one minute 04.35 seconds. Brilliant View came from way off the pace with a blistering turn of foot and settled the issue a long way from home.

The presence of Shiraz Sunderji`s horses has been posing a problem or two for the punters. His horses are reckoned to be of much superior class as they have migrated from Mumbai and are widely believed to be superior to local horses. Menilly was backed strongly ahead of Brilliant View who had all the credentials.

Beauty On Parade who chased Burano into the straight hit the front inside the final two furlongs and held the lead for another furlong before Brilliant View came home with a big effort and stormed clear to win by a widening margin of three lengths. Menilly disappointed and just about managed to get the third slot.

Shiraz Sunderji trained Monarchos has been a big letdown in his career but each time he attracts betting in the hope that he would make amends. The four-year-old gelding who has had an operation for a wind problem was the favourite for the 1200 metres Golden Dagger Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Monarchos raced keenly in front but in the stretch, packed up under pressure to go out of contention well before the final furlong. Angel Tesoro who was in a handy position, then took charge and went sailing clear and then stayed on grimly. Top Class came up with a big charge from behind but failed to collar the front-runner by a neck. Bloom Buddy who lacked early speed, ran on to finish third. Hilton Sequeira trained Aerial Combat who had gone down narrowly with a late flourish on the last occasion, won the lower division of the race as a short-priced favourite. Aerial Combat who was relaxed in the rear group was brought on the wide outside to make his bid inside the final two furlongs. Aerial Combat picked up speed tremendously, overwhelmed the front-running Star Racer and Curcumin and stormed ahead in the final 100 metres to record an emphatic win. Aibak rallied along the rails to nose out stablemate Curcumin and Star Racer to get the runner-up berth.

Jockey Akshay Kumar who had a rich haul of winners was also astride a winner in Leo D`Silva trained Miss Marvellous who beat the field in the 1600 metres Flying Treasurer Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 in an absorbing finish. Miss Marvellous was held back in the rear group and the five-year-old mare had to cover plenty of leeway on the front-running Dillon which she did with a measure of comfort. Miss Marvellous came up with a big effort and managed to head Dillon at the post. Linewiler too finished with a rush on the wide outside and was a neck behind the runner-up. Had Linewiler not gone wide, the result could well have been different.

Sreekant trained Star Cruise broke the maidens ranks in his 12th attempt by winning the 1200 metres Osman Sagar Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category with a start to finish effort. Jockey Akshay Kumar had Star Cruise take charge from the beginning. The strongly backed favourite did not come under any pressure when skipping beyond the reach of his opponents in the final furlong. Stark came up with a late bid to get the second berth from Good Tidings. The second favourite Exotic Dancer who was in the chase of the favourite failed to make an impression. Shashikanth trained Silk who was the firm favourite in the lower division of the race had no problem in winning the lower division of the race by a widening margin of four lengths. Silk appeared too superior for the field as she led all the way without having to be pushed to quicken. Apprentice jockey Santosh Raj had an easy ride on the favourite. Joy O Joy and Challenger occupied the next two slots behind the winner.
