Stunning Force wins feature in the last stride

By: Tippu Sultan   December 26 , 2021

S Hassan trained Stunning Force recorded an encore, getting the better of lesser fancied Kingston in the closing stride of the race to win the 1200 metres Mir Fazilath Hussain Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Sunday`s Hyderabad races. Jockey Mukesh Kumar was at his aggressive best when getting Stunning Force to nail Kingston on the post. Trainer Ravinder Singh had a big day, saddling three winners.

Sequeira trained House of Diamonds who had let down as a fancied runner on a couple of occasions was once again backed with conviction to have a bold show. But the favourite was not well-positioned to strike. The four-year-old filly did not have the requisite speed to cover the leeway and ended up as a disappointing fourth. Kingston had the first run on his opponents by spurting ahead in the final furlong and looked like he was going to pull it off. But Stunning Force was able to record a last stride win. Intense Approach ran on without disturbing the equation and finished third.

Shezad Abbas trained Castlerock produced a late burst of speed to snatch the verdict close to home from favourite Rising Queen in the 1200 metres Greener Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Rising Queen raced aggressively in front and though she looked vulnerable to the threat of the fancied Above The Law, it was left to lesser fancied Castlerock to pull of a surprise. Castlerock finished with a rush to get the nod in the waning yards of the race. The lower division of the race too saw a close finish with Ravinder Singh trained Able Love winning in a three-horse finish. Favourite Angelita could have obliged but the fancied runner got stuck behind the wall of horses inside the final furlong and by the time, the jockey angled out the horse and brought it with a strong run, Able Love had reached the safety of the winning post ahead of Lifes Song. Angelita was a good thing beat.

Luck was on the side of trainer Ravinder Singh whose Sacred Lamp managed to snatch a short-head win over Sun Dancer in the 1400 metres Sangam Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Sacred Lamp went very wide and raced on the outer rail and appeared to have lost her chances. Sun Dancer who kept a straight course looked to have won the race staving off the challenge of long-time leader Rhythm Selection. But Sacred Lamp had indeed won the race by a whisker. Mukesh Kumar guided favourite Linewiler to a narrow win over late rallying Curcumin in the lower division of the race. Linewiler shook off the front-running Sheldon in the final furlong and stormed ahead and had enough cushion when Curcumin came home with a late charge.

Ravinder Singh led in his first of the three winners through long shot Royal Girl who showed up with a flourishing run along the rails with a furlong left in the race and had no problem in keeping the challenge of Prime Gardenia at bay in the opening race of the day. The latter managed to retain the runner-up berth from late finishing Destine To Be.
