Miracle proves that she is a progressive filly

By: Frankel   February 21 , 2021

Pesi Shroff trained Miracle showed good improvement over her previous winning effort while Dragoness faltered and that made the critical difference to the outcome of the Gr 3 Panchshil Breeders` Produce Stakes, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Sunday`s Mumbai races. Veteran jockey Pradeep Chouhan had a field day, booting home six winners in the long-drawn card of 10 events.

Dragoness had made a smashing debut and the runaway fashion of the victory of the daughter of Starspangledbanner was the reason why she went to the post for the feature event at cramped odds. Miracle too had recorded an impressive over the seven-furlong trip and had a settled look about her and she was fancied to have a strong say at the finish. Succession set a fast clip followed by Dragoness, Miracle and the rest. Dragoness raced keen and jockey Parmar made his move around the final turn and the favourite had the first run on her opponents. Miracle went in the chase and after a duel for supremacy over the length of the straight, the daughter of Multidimensional asserted her supremacy, sparing a length at the finish despite drifting out under pressure. Jockey Pradeep Chouhan was astride the winner. Succession stayed on to take the third position.

Barring the defeat against Juliette, Pesi Shroff trained Parisian had been on a winning spree. It was only to be expected that the five-year-old mare Parisian will go the post for the 2400 metres Hyderabad Race Club Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above, as a firm favourite. After Magistero expended himself running freely in front, Wizard of Stocks who raced in the second position after a slow getaway shot ahead. The lead was short-lived as Parisian who was in a handy posey, moved swiftly and had the race sewn up a long way from home. Wizard of Stocks stayed put in the second position ahead of Vulcan.

Though Circus Queen had finished way behind Dragoness on the last occasion, that run was good enough to ensure success in the modest field of runners in the fray for the 1000 metres Pioneer Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Jockey Sandesh took Circus Queen on a start to finish mission and the favourite had no problem in staying put in that position. Petronia gave a hot chase but all that he achieved was to bridge the gap to a length at the finish. Excellent Star managed to pinch the third place from The Mentalist finishing more than eight lengths behind the runner-up.

Pesi Shroff trained Tigrio got the race in the Stewards room after the four-year-old colt lost to Makhtoob on the track in the 1600 metres Picasso Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 66. Makhtoob had the lead all the way in the straight but did not keep a straight course under pressure and went on Tigrio who was making his bid on his wide and even made contact. The resultant objection by jockey Chouhan against C S Jodha for interference was readily accepted by the Stewards and the placings were reversed. Venezuela was third.

Pradeep Chouhan`s sixth winner of the day came in the penultimate race of the day, the 1400 metres Bold March Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 46. From a handy third position at the final bend, the fancied Thunderclap swiftly asserted his supremacy midway in the straight and won by a widening margin of four lengths over Sandalphon and Timeless Deeds. Faisal Abbas trained Tanhaiyaan looked too good in the lower division of the race and the cramped odds given by the bookmakers was justified. Tanhaiyaan asserted his supremacy in the stretch and won by a margin of over five lengths. Pride`s Angel was second ahead of Northern Singer.

The two horses from trainer Pesi Shroff`s yards namely Seasons Greetings and Arcadia were well backed to have a bold show in the 2000 metres Days Best Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Seasons Greetings was strong in the market. There was also enthusiastic support for Imtiaz Sait trained In Contention who had made a winning debut over a mile. In the event, Arcadia who held the lead deep into the straight was overwhelmed by stablemate and favourite Seasons Greetings close to home. La Test necked out Magic In The Wand to save place money. In Contention did not find a foot and was a beaten cause making no improvement despite high expectations from the stable. Socrates who had found Maplewood too good in his last effort proved vastly superior to the opposition in the lower division of the race. Pradeep Chouhan had Socrates take charge early in the race and the progeny of Nathaniel was not hard-pressed to beat the challenge of the lesser fancied Chancellor. Brazos was third. Favourite Mandeville, also from the same stables as Socrates, dropped jockey Dashrath Singh soon after jumping out from the gates.

Apprentice jockey M S Deora had a welcome win through Altaf Hussain trained World Is One who proved too good in the 1000 metres Hunt For Gold Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. The lesser fancied runner led all the way and had no problem in staving off the spirited challenge of Titanium. Colosseum was a faraway third while favourite Little More was nowhere in the hunt. In a thrilling finish, the long shot from trainer Ivor Fernandes` stables Supreme Being prevailed in the hands of apprentice jockey Raghuveer Singh in the lower division of the race. Dowsabel and Divija dead-heated for the second place.
