Trainer Aravind Ganapathy had the biggest day of his career when his ward Faith of Success landed the Gr 2 Golconda Oaks in tremendous fashion at Malakpet on Monday. Faith of Success maintained his winning form treating the opposition with disdain in the hands of jockey Neeraj Rawal. For Aravind Ganapathy this was the first classic success of his career.
For somebody like Aravind who hadn’t seen much success in his career, the winter campaign has been a good one as he had won a double at Bangalore. Faith of Success had won a race over nine furlongs at Bangalore and the manner of victory suggested better things to come for this Hazara Stud Farm bred Faith of Success. The trainer confidently took his ward to tackle the challenge of the horses in the fray for the Oaks as the horses which were mainly considered as possible winners were all maidens. After Aretha set the pace and weakened on turning for home, Faith of Success covered the leeway on the front-runner in the matter of a few strides and had the race sewn up a long way from home. Ruling Goddess ran on to finish second while the third-placed Maximum Glamour was four lengths adrift. Own Voice who had run a notable second behind Miracle in the Guineas was in distress from the word 'go’ and finished poorly.

An elated Aravind said that he was quite confident of the success of his ward and considering the progress that the progeny of Saamidd has made, the trainer said he would be targeting his ward in the forthcoming Golconda Derby.

Jockey Mukesh Kumar’s power-packed riding enabled Ashwa Raudee to win the 2000 metres Deccan Prince Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, in a thrilling three-horse finish. Ashwa Raudee who raced up with the field quickly seized the initiative approaching the final furlong and fought off resolutely the threat from late rallying Fire Power and Southern Princess. Fire Power who had to cover considerable leeway on Ashwa Raudee was game for the task but failed by a whisker.

Ravindra Singh trained Dillon appeared a transformed horse as the six-year-old came home with a brilliant burst of speed to get the better of the battling duo of Dhar Ek Char and Salisbury in the 1400 metres Gangotri Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Char Ek Char had the initiative going into the final furlong but the way Dillon moved with brisk strides was a revelation. Jockey Akshay Kumar produced favourite General Atlantic in the nick of time to edge out Gregor Clegane in the lower division of the race. Gregor Clegane shaped like a winner when he shot inside the final furlong but the finishing burst of the favourite put paid to his hopes.

Ajeeth Kumar drove out Mir Faiyaz Ali Khan trained Morior Invictus to a narrow win over favourite Ok Boss in the 1200 metres Storm Trooper Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Morior Invictus who came from way off the pace hung in badly and in the process tightened the progress of the favourite Ok Boss who made his bid along the rails. There was an objection by Akshay Kumar who rode the runner up but the interference was not so severe as to make a material difference to the race and as such, it was overruled by the Stewards. Akshay Kumar however was astride the winner of the lower division where the well-backed Hot Seat had no problem in keeping the challenge of Ambitious Star at bay. Narakamicie who came in for big support did not get a clear run along the rails. There was considerable support for debutant Doe A Deer but the filly looked far from ready.

Shiraz Sunderji trained Galway Bay produced a late dash to get the better of favourite White Roses in the closing strides of the race to win the 1400 metres Aristocrat Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The two horses who battled the issue proved too good for the rest as the third-placed Ayr finished more than eight lengths adrift.
