Vittal Deshmukh trained Maximise, despite being in deep order in the final stages of the race, managed to scrape through at the expense of El Paso and Clever Ploy to win the 2200 metres M L N Reddy Memorial Cup, a Category I race, the feature event of races held on Monday.

Reconnect who is yet to strike winning form in the last two seasons despite being a Derby winner, was made the favourite as his last run was encouraging. El Paso was next in demand while the rest were at nourishing odds, the weight perhaps dissuading many punters from plumping for Maximise who is at home over longer trips.

Top weighted Orochi led the field form the start as is his wont with Maximise in close attendance followed by Clever Ploy, Adamant Approach, Davenport, with Reconnect sticking to the rear. Jockey Imran Khan on Reconnect chose to play the waiting game too long for comfort and then he chose to come through the shortest way home where there was not enough space to get the horse to get into full flight and his riding robbed the favourite of a possible win. Maximise who went surging ahead with about two furlongs to go was strongly challenged by El Paso and Clever Ploy but the winning post came to the rescue of the front runner before he could be overhauled by El Paso who was finishing on powerfully. Reconnect ran on to finish fourth behind Clever Ploy.

Jockey Imran Khan was seen in better light on Reality Show where he packed punch on the fancied runner to get the measure of Grand Rapids and Scamper in a three way finish in the Sir Bruce Plate (Div II). Royal Scotsman who was the favourite was never in with a chance at any stage of the nine furlongs race. Scamper led all the way but the filly was strongly challenged by both Grand Rapids and Reality Show in the final furlong. The last named moved with raking strides on the wide outside to get the nod in the final stride of the race. Grand Rapids was second ahead of Scamper on whom apprentice Dileep did a tidy job. Favourite Al Fatha won the upper division of the race in a pulsating finish from Royal Tune whose late dash just about failed to procure the desired result. Al Fatha took charge of the race with a furlong to go after shaking of the front running Star Favours and managed to win though he had to survive a scare as Royal Tune came with a sustained burst of speed only to miss narrowly.

Jockey Ruzzan rode a persevering race on Welcome Baby to land the spoils in the Chirala Cup (Div I). Long shot Ted Lapidus made the entire running and had the race in his grasp but Welcome Baby came form way off the piece to catch the front runner in the shadow of the post. Favourite Achiever was a tame third. Fire Bender was another who took his own time to warm up but once he did so there was no stopping this fancied runner form putting across Ruby Crown who held fort till he was overhauled close home in the lower division of the race.

Laxman Singh trained Kohinoor Wish recoded a smashing win in the Smt Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup, a terms race for three year olds, run over a mile. Kohinoor Wish toyed with the opposition to win pulling up from Aloisia and Golden Queen. Jockey Stephen Carson rode a confident race on the favourite and was unperturbed by the frenetic action around him.

Arabian Dancer came up with determined strides in the final furlong to get the measure of favourite Miss Everywhere who faltered close home. Miss Everywhere had won in the hands of five kg claimer but this time out, the penalty and the absence of any allowance put paid to the hopes of the got abroad filly from recording an encore.

The well backed Amber Rose fought off a determined challenge from Siddipet Express and won the Elusive Pimpernel Plate (Div I). Cilcila won the lower division of the race with a strong run in the closing stages of the race, with Indian Brave Heart failing to sustain his foray in front.
