Trainer Ananth Vatsalya shrewdly exploited the form of his ward Zambo Anga by running the four-year old gelding within three days and winning the Sweet Girl Plate (Div I), a Category II race, on the concluding day of the Hyderabad Winter Races on Tuesday. Since the handicaps were published well before Zambo Anga won on Sunday, the horse carried the statutory penalty and carried the top weight of 62 kgs and still produced a winning gallop in the final furlong. The last day’s racing also saw quite a few horses which were waited with for an opportune time, obliging as well backed horses. Racing resumes at this centre only in the month of July after a longish break for summer.

The Mukteshwar Star Farm bred Zambo Anga has been in good form this season though barring the trainer and a few optimists, not many gave a chance for the horse to win in such a short span. However, the horse seemed to have recovered well as he came up with a flourish to get the better of King of Courts who had taken charge from long time leader Yanamaria with a furlong out form the winning post. Divine Ganges also showed some spirit while finishing a close third.

Satheesh trained Scamper who had been running forward races over longer trips, benefited by the five kg allowance claimed by her jockey B Dileep and made the entire running and held off Manduro by a neck to win the lower division of the race. Apprentice Dileep could not offer much assistance to the winner who won on her obvious superiority.

Deepanjali managed to keep the challenge of Petradura at bay to win the Bhimavaram Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three year olds with a start to finish mission. Favourite Look At Me Go made no show. Fearless Mission had showed out in his unplaced effort but it was Splendid Knock who was the focus of attention in the ring in the lower division of the race. In a race which saw almost five horses charge home menacingly in the shadow of the post, Fearless Mission who had shaken off the front running Loco Poco held on spiritedly to win from the favourite. Less than a length separated the first four finishers.

Favourite Anemometer took a long time to overhaul the front running Fleeting Wish and by the time he could put his neck in front, the well backed Onera Onera Onera finished with a rattle to snatch the verdict from the battling duo in the 1400 metres Naloma Plate.

Three horses, Fabulous Crown, Alukkhas and Jet Express were withdrawn form the fray in the Columbia Plate (Div I). Phar Lap, with apprentice Harinder Singh in the saddle, proved infinitely superior to the field, winning by a widening margin of seven lengths. Red River Rebel who was another backed down horse to win. The Anupam Sharma ward, who had not displayed her true potential in her earlier runs, came good, justifying the thrust in the ring on her. Red River Rebel led all the way and thwarted the strong bid of Al Jadeed to the land spoils to win the lower division of the Columbia Plate.

Sorbitrate led from the start in the1200 metres Polavaram Plate, a race for maiden three year olds, and held the initiative till the closing stages of the race. Sun Strikes however gathered momentum inside the final 100 metres and managed to overhaul the front runner but had to survive a scare from Star Experience who finished with a rattle.

The strongly fancied Alpine Girl took over the running on turning for home and comfortably won the Charon Plate from favourite Rising Rays who made a futile attempt to catch up with the front runner.
