Trainer Dallas Todywalla had a bountiful harvest through Clarion Call, who won the feature event in a three-horse contest, Green Signal and Living The Dream. Green Signal (Major Impact – Red Alert) with Malesh Narredu in saddle swooped down on leader Lusty, who veered out when the field of five straightened for home, and stretched out to win from favourite Tara, who received a horrendous ride from P. Belose. Tara lost several lengths at the start but the slow pace set by Lusty allowed her to get in touch with the field soon. Coming into the home stretch, Belose was uninterested in taking the wide gap offered by Lusty towards the inner rails and instead chose to bring Tara from the outside. The ensuing few seconds of the last stages of the race left punters shocked. Tara was taken on a criss-cross mission by Belose and the filly eventually lost a race which was hers for the asking. The Stewards were in a lenient mood it seems as they let off Belose with a two-day suspension terming his efforts on Tara as incompetent riding!
Clarion Call (Alnasr Alwasheek – Star Fortune) won with a wide margin but had to survive a double objection. S. Zervan when taking over the running from Romantic Impact shifted in and leaned on to Weizhou, who too was trying to make headway. Clarion Call was clearly the better moving horse but he nearly brought down the rider of Weizhou while trying to move towards the rails. The incident looked very serious but the Stewards rightly ruled that the race should not be taken away from the winner.
Dallas completed a treble when Living The Dream (Soviet Star – Hatheethah) came with a tantalising run down the straight when stirred into action by Stephane Ladjadj. The bay gelding stretched out to win from Royal Companion, who had problems in finding his rhythm till Living The Dream usurped the race. Caustic Finale ran much better than expected to finish in the money ahead of Tell Me More. Sing Along put her head down as the start was given and ran hopelessly thereafter as such this effort is best ignored. Their Lil Sister was prominent despite running on the outer lane but she faded out soon.
Stephane also went on to complete a treble when Narendra Lagad trained Appalina (Placerville – Appetina) made mincemeat of her rivals in the concluding race. Appalina raced merrily in front and was never threatened by any of her rivals throughout six-furlong journey. Flying Tackle and Game of Power finished in the money while River Pride laboured hard to finish fourth.
Lagad and Stephane were earlier associated with the success of Blush (Fasliyev – Eastern Sky), who made most of the lenient treatment given by the handicapper for her maiden win last week. Blush chased Mystic Temple till the heads turned for home and raced clear when put into top gear by her rider. Nurai finished a good second ahead of Ibis and Lampard.
