Rutherford Alford when questioned regarding the inconsistence performance of his charge A WINK ANNDA SMILE stated that in its previous start he had instructed Jockey Antony Raj to take a good jump and position himself wherever possible. The gelding was placed in 2nd or 3rd position, came up with the run, was in with a chance up to the 150 metres and then faded out. On Jockey Antony Raj’s advise that the gelding may like to be ridden in a more settled way, he gave the instructions today to Jockey Md Azharuddin accordingly. This was the gelding’s maiden win as a seven years old, it came out and won in a blanket finish. His explanations were noted. The Veterinary Officer reported that A WINK ANNDA SMILE returned without its right fore shoe. |

However, due to there being no pace in the race, his charge was not able to find an advantageous position. Jockey Suraj Narredu corroborated the Trainer’s instructions. He further stated that he was inconvenienced at about the 600 metres due to a tightly packed field and when he made a final effort, the filly did not have much to offer in the final stages of the race. The Stipendiary Stewards while noting their explanations, advised the Trainer to get his charge examined by the Veterinary Officer. Post race endoscopy of LAGUNA SECA on 11th March, 2026 revealed that the filly suffered from EIPH Gr III. Tr. Vijay Singh was advised not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer. |
