Psychic Force upstages Redoubtable in Sana Cup

By: Goldie Boy   October 6 , 2022

Trainer Aashay Doctor`s 6/1 shot Psychic Force (Neeraj Rawal-up) upset the apple-cart of the 4/10 hot favourite, Redoubtable (App S. Saqlain) from Rutherford Alford`s stable, on his way to winning the 2,000m Sana Cup, the feature event in Thursday`s six-event card. Aashay ended his day with a profitable treble, his other winners being Stockbridge (Neeraj) and Livisilla (Ashhad Asbar). The afternoon also witnessed, A. Sandesh notching up a brace of winners when the crafty jockey partnered trainers Bharath Singh`s Randolph and Imtiaz Sait`s Kiefer to fluent victories in their respective events.

Redoubtable`s runaway tactics may have cost the heavily wagered runner , a winning bracket. The five-year-old was taken to the front from the start but passing the halfway mark, he kicked clear and was visibly tiring inside the final furlong, prompting the top-weighted Psychic Force to snap the advantage. A tiring Redoubtable was also seen shifting out badly in the final stages of the race.

Another heavily backed runner, Stockbridge (Neeraj) in the curtain raiser, the 1,600m Skyexch Handicap, opened Aashay`s afternoon`s account. The 9/20 hot property ran in the shadows of B. Mahesh`s frontrunner, D. Knight Mysore (app Prathvi Singh), till about turning for home before kicking clear of the opposition. Now that the four-year-old colt is almost ready, he may be the horse to watch in the coming weeks.

Aashay`s Livisilla (Asbar) was hardly tested as the five-year-old filly recorded a 4 length-plus victory in the 1,400m Exchmarket.com Handicap. With Vijay Singh`s Whistle Blower (Sandesh) and Mahesh`s Full Volume (Afzal Khan) far from fully tuned and Exotique visibly detesting a heavy impost of 59.5kg, Livisilla – the last outing facile winner, scored back-to-back victory to the delight of Aashay who, perhaps, scored a his first treble.

Another youngster, under scrutiny, was the Sait-trained Kiefer (Sandesh) in the 1,400m Elistano Handicap. The three-year-old filly, from western India, is a Monsoon Derby entry, and she passed her trial without raising much of sweat. The lowly weighted Divya Shakthi (Sujit Kumar), from Vikash Jaiswal`s stable was best of the rest. In the same race, trainer Neil Darashah`s top-weighted Sicily (A. Imran Khan), who placed third, was no match for Divya Shakthi, leave alone the winner, after displaying speed in the early half of the 1,400m race.

Trainer Bharath Singh`s Randolph (Sandesh) was impressive in his maiden victory. The three-year old was held back right behind Swift Lady till approaching the final turn and was gone for an easy win over the late finishing Actofmagic (Paswan). The fact that Randolph carried a topweight of 60kg and was a fluent winner, the horse possesses the power to notch up another win, if judiciously placed.

The Javed Khan-trained Dr Doom won the 1,100m Thrifty Allan Plate, despite an awkward start. However, thanks to app Saqlain who nursed the half-money favourite in the mid-bunch before taking a circuitous route to the front after a brief struggle with Musical Sound (Nikhil Naidu) for a length victory over a late finishing Southern Lad (app P. Tejeshwar), from Vijay`s stable. In the same race trainer Jaiswal`s Big Brown (Paswan) placed a good third and the horse seems to be coming right now.
