Pride`s Prince Holds Court in Kanga Thriller

  February 26 , 2026

Imtiaz Sait`s Pride`s Prince added another brave chapter to his busy résumé, collaring the favourite The Millennium Force in a stirring finish to the 1600 metres R N Kanga Trophy, Thursday`s feature for the 80 and above brigade at Mahalaxmi.

Anthony Raj rode like a man settling unfinished business. The Millennium Force, who had struck a purple patch at Pune, was returning from a break and looked every bit the danger in the final furlong. But race fitness told. Pride`s Prince, hardened by a busy season and fresh from edging out classic winner African Gold, found that extra ounce. He stunned the favourite by a short neck. Chagall stayed on for third.

El Greco, usually allergic to restraint, missed the bus at the start and with it, his chance. Shubhankar set the pace but could not last when the real running began.

In a tight finish earlier, Faisal Abbas trained Amazing Ruler finally put luck in its place. With Trevor Patel taking over, the gelding was positioned handily and driven out decisively to deny a fast finishing Shirsha. Matisse was third, Vincero a nose away in fourth. After two good efforts, Amazing Ruler went one better.

James McKeown ended a long wait when Akitania delivered in the 1000 metres Air Force Cup. David Allan adopted start to finish tactics and the favourite never saw a moment of discomfort, scoring convincingly over the well backed Viennoise. Jaisalmer flashed late and was unlucky to miss second by a whisker.

Cinderella`s Dream justified strong support in the Pradeep Vijaykar Plate. Dropping a category proved the masterstroke. Trevor Patel guided the Faisal Abbas ward to the front in the straight and she contained Surrealist with authority. Medusa and Foujita followed.

The A F S Talyarkhan Salver for maiden three year olds produced a surprise. Lemoika, sent off at double digit odds, swooped late to score. The cramped priced Ghost Of Victory flattered only to deceive. Funny Bunny

rattled home strongly, while Absolute Power finished third.

Trainer Prithviraj finally found reason to smile when the lesser fancied Youremylove powered home under Manish to lower the colours of the favourite. Beyond Stars was narrowly edged out for second.

David Allan completed a double when Minorca, trained by Dallas Todywalla, landed a long priced blow in the Sir Charles Forbes Trophy over 1400 metres. Soleva and Incredible Luck filled the frame. Favourite Caviar Queen disappointed, while the well backed Youremybaby was withdrawn at the gates.
