Beauty Blaze prevails in Vijay Reddy Cup

By: Tippu Sultan   January 12 , 2023

Favourite Beauty Blaze from the stables of Beauty Blaze duly obliged in the 1200 metres B Vijay Reddy Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Thursday`s races held at Malakpet. Trainer Leo D`Silva hogged the limelight saddling four winners. Races ran kindly for the punters, with fancied runners ruling the roost in the majority of the races.

Beauty Blaze was a short-priced favourite to win especially after a noteworthy third behind Ashwa Morocco though there was a longish gap of 158 days since her last run. The track work was suggestive of Beauty Blaze`s well-being. The Thunder set a decent pace followed by Maximum Glamour and Beauty Blaze. Maximum Glamour tackled the front runner early in the straight but could not sustain it as Beauty Blaze pounced on him with a powerful effort. Beauty Blaze stormed clear in the final furlong and went on to record an easy win. Maximum Glamour was third while Angel Tesoro who was loitering in the rear of the field covered acres of ground to nose out the long-time front-runner The Thunder to save place money.

Srinivas Reddy trained True Marshall had run in the Guineas about 6.4 lengths adrift of Salento and was switched back to a handicap race. The four-year-old gelding was quoted at money back to win the 1200 metres B Vijay Reddy Memorial Cup (Div II), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. True Marshal had to be driven out by jockey Akshay Kumar to measure Garnet in the final furlong. Garnet who had the lead going into the final furlong put up a dogged resistance before True Marshal asserted his superiority inside the final 100 metres. Bangor On Dee came up with a late rally to displace Garnet from the runner-up position in the shadow of the post.

Leo D`Silva enjoyed a field day, with Miss Marvellous providing him with the third winner of the day. Favourite Despang from the stables of trainer Vittal Deshmukh led by lengths and shaped to win the race. However, in the dying moments of the race, Despang began to slacken and shifted out under pressure. Miss Marvellous, under a vigorous ride by Afroz Khan, rallied strongly from about the fourth position at the final bend, with the jockey reacting swiftly to the front horse drifting onto him and drove out the second favourite to snatch the verdict in the final stride of the race. Southern Act pinched the third slot with a good run from the rear of the field.

Faisal Abbas trained Rising Tycoon who had the benefit of two race runs was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1100 metres Attractress Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. However, the favourite failed to show any improvement and was a beaten cause all the way in the straight. Long shot Kenaf from the stables of trainer Leo D`Silva hit the front from the word `go` and enjoyed an uncontested lead and made it an unassailable one by the final furlong to eventually win by a margin of over four lengths in the hands of jockey Afroz Khan. Happy Soul was second while Rising Tycoon finished a poor third.

When in doubt, trusting Akshay Kumar seems to be the motto of the local punters. The blind faith in Akshay Kumar ridden horses saw Golden Inzio getting one-sided support in the 1400 metres Twin Star Cup (Div II), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. My Marvel attempted to steal the race in front by running freely and had the lead approaching the final furlong. Alpine Girl who was in danger of being boxed behind the front runner and the quickly improving Siri, was cleverly angled out by first-season apprentice Shivansh. Alpine Girl showed tremendous acceleration to storm clear to win the race by a widening margin of three lengths over Siri and Keep Faith. Golden Inzio who raced in the fourth position was under pressure to improve but he was unequal to the task and finished a disappointing fourth. However, similar support for Akshay Kumar-ridden Salisbury yielded positive result. Precious Gift ran freely in front and expended her energy in the process by the time the horses covered a furlong from the top of the straight. Salisbury, racing handily in the third position, improved quickly, tackled the front-runner with ease, and sped away for a win by a margin of four lengths. Explosive ran on to get the second position ahead of Power Ranger.

Satheesh trained Royal Pal won the day`s opener, 1400 metres Business Tycoon Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category with a late surge, getting the nod in the waning yards of the race. Silver Lining in the hands of Md Ekram Alam appeared to be heading for a win but Royal Pal put paid to her hopes by getting up in time despite taking the turn wide and racing the widest. Apprentice R S Jodha was astride the winner. Track Blazer was third while favourite Jack Daniel put up a tame show.

Leo D`Silva rounded off his tally for the day saddling his fourth winner in the concluding race of the day. Lesser fancied Royal Star finished with a powerful run down the final furlong to neck out Fatuma in the dying moments of the races to win the 1200 metres Ballerina Star Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 in the hands of jockey Afroz Khan who booted home three winners, all for his retrained trainer Leo D`Silva. Unmatched held off favourite Big Boy to save place money.
