Rajesh Narredu trained Priceless Gold broke the winning sequence of Black Onyx with a late surge which saw the six-year-old gelding head the latter at the post to land the spoils in the 1600 metres Qutab Shahi Million, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of races held at Malakpet on Monday. Jockey Yash Narredu drove out the favourite with all the resources at his command to snatch the verdict in the closing stride of the race to get the progeny of Excellent Art to win a race after a lapse of 112 days.

Bangalore challenger Bellator led from the start and led deep into the final furlong. Black Onyx who was in the chase then surged ahead and shaped like a winner as Priceless Gold who made his move from the rear had some leeway to cover. However, Priceless Gold showed good acceleration to catch the front-runner in the dying strides of the race to justify the favoritism. Bellator weakened in the final furlong but still was good enough to keep the two local challengers Watch My Stride and Beauty Blaze at bay.

In another thrilling finish, last-start winner General Atlantic prevailed by a whisker against Painted Apache in the 1600 metres Narayanpet Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Campania was widely fancied to pull it off with the rest of the runners available at big odds. Show Me Your Walk was dominant all through the race and had a healthy lead going into the final furlong. Painted Apache who made his bid from the rear of the field with a ground-saving, but slightly interfered run, flew home while the Ravinder Singh trained General Atlantic showed up on the wide outside. Jockey Gaurav Singh was able to extract that bit extra at the finish which made a critical difference to the outcome of the race as General Atlantic prevailed by a head. Favourite Campania made a late dash to finish a close third.

K Satheesh trained Role Model was another horse to strike close to home in the 1600 metres Bonzer Cup, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Superstellar appeared to have the race in his grasp when apprentice jockey Kuldeep Singh got the lead inside the final 100 metres. However, a desperate surge by Role Model in the hands of jockey Nikhil saw the long shot nail the favourite on the post. Resurgence was third.

The day`s races were marked by close finishes and in yet another absorbing fight, lesser fancied True Icon from the stables of trainer Ravinder Singh managed to neck out favourite Barbet close to home. Thanks led deep into the straight before jockey Kiran Naidu angled out Barbet to make his bid in the final furlong. Barbet tackled the front-runner and surged ahead. A late rally by True Icon in the hands of jockey Nikhil yielded the desired results as a desperate effort from the lesser fancied runner saw him prevail by a neck. Strauss covered a lot of ground in the end but ran out of ground.

The highly consistent Bedford from the stables of trainer N Rawal made it a start-to-finish affair in the 1200 metres King`s Crown Plate, a race for horses rated 60 to 85. The speedy Bedford hit the front from the word `go` and led by several lengths and won easily in the hands of apprentice jockey Santosh Raj. Favourite Ayr ran on to finish second ahead of late rallying Kingston.

Hilton Sequeira trained Original Sin recorded an impressive win in the 1400 metres Bhupalpally Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Despite being in danger of being squeezed between two horses inside the final furlong, Original Sin showed maturity to shoot through to take control of the proceedings and then skip clear to win from Only The Brave. Shadow of the Moon nosed out Windsor to get third place.

After three consecutive runner-up efforts, Vittal Deshmukh trained Ivanhoe recorded an easy win as a favourite in the 1400 metres Medchal Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Apprentice jockey Kuldeep Singh pushed Ivanhoe to take charge from the wide outside draw. Thereafter the favourite was not headed by any of the runners as the progeny of Top Class bounced clear in the final furlong to with a measure of comfort from Master Touch and Royal Pal.
