Laxman Singh trained Tiger Mountain was hard pressed to win the 1400 metres Royal Revive Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 60 to 85, the feature event of races held on Monday at Malakpet. Tiger Mountain received one-sided support to oblige and was able to justify favouritism thanks to a strong finish by jockey Akshay Kumar which largely decided the fate of the race. South India Oaks winner Mysterious Angel justified the strong support in the lower division with more ease. It was a day of mixed fortunes for the punters.
After recording back-to-back wins during the monsoon season, Tiger Mountain, in his only run at Bangalore during the summer reason, had finished about four lengths adrift of Ashwa Yudhvir. Considering the filly`s readiness to win based on the impressive mock race and excellent workouts, Tiger Mountain received sustained support to end up as an on-money favourite. However, the win did not come in the way the market anticipated as Ashwa Morocco very nearly spoiled the party but apprentice jockey Sonu Kumar, without the aid of the whip, could not offer more than he could under the circumstances. Tiger Mountain who came through the shortest way, finished strongly to snatch the verdict in the closing strides of the race, sparing a neck at the finish. Carlisle was third more than four lengths adrift.
The support for Vittal Deshmukh trained Mysterious Angel in the lower division of the Royal Revive Plate was in keeping with the achievements of the filly. The daughter of Smuggler`s Cove out of Mykonos had won the Oaks at Chennai besides finishing six lengths adrift of Salento in the Golconda Derby. The only doubt if anyone nursed was about the sharpness of the trip. The filly overcame the same due to her superior class. Ajeeth Kumar brought Mysterious
Angel with a well-timed run in the centre of the track. The filly showed enough speed and resolution to go storming clear and had enough legs to ward off the late challenge of Royal Grace who came home with a menacing run but fell short in the end. Amyra was far away third.
Sreekant trained Just Incredible had not won a race for two years but in the intervening period, had come down a class. As such, the spirited support for him to win in an age-group race meant for horses rated five-year-olds and over clearly was a giveaway. Just Incredible was backed from a higher quote to favouritism while the odds on the last-time winner Lady Danger and ante-post joint favourite Sopranos drifted out. In the event, jockey Kuldeep Singh who had placed Just Incredible in about the fifth or sixth position brought the favourite into contention down the middle. The favourite smoothly cruised past the opposition to win the race by a widening margin of five lengths. Lady Danger headed Fatuma at the post to get the runner-up berth. Ice Berry who was in serious betting lost all her chances at the gate itself with a lethargic start. Sopranos was not spotted to have any chance during the race.
Robin Reddy Kondakalla trained Above The Law gave a shock to the punters with a late rally from the back of the pack to nail another long shot Red Snapper on the post to win the 1200 metres Nawab Khaja Moinuddin Khan Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Garnet was the fancied runner but the favourite failed to quicken along the rails after being well positioned. Red Snapper shaped like a winner close to home but the big rally by the eventual winner put paid to the hopes of the front runner. Morior Invictus necked out Garnet to save place money. Laxman Singh trained Malala was the preferred horse to win the lower division of the race but the favourite went down in a tight three-horse finish. Exotic Dancer had a runaway lead but was perceptibly slowing down when Larus made his bid along the rails and the favourite Malala on the outside of these two horses. Exotic Dancer managed to cling on to the lead to win by a short head while Laurus was another short head ahead of the favourite.
Laxman Singh trained Proud Mary gave relief to the beleaguered punters when the heavily supported three-year-old filly readily obliged in the 1200 metres Gadwal Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The daughter of Lord Admiral who had the benefit of a race run during the season, proved overwhelmingly superior, swamping the opposition, leaving the field stranded in the final furlong to win by a widening margin of seven lengths. Dyanoosh staved off Reigning Beauty for the runner-up berth.
Lucky Zone was one of the three strongly backed favourites to win during the course of the day`s action. Lucky Zone though shared favouritism with Life Is Good in the 1600 metres Rachakonda Cup, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Lucky Zone was in danger of being interfered with by Role Model on whom apprentice jockey R S Jodha failed to exercise sufficient control. Ajeet Kumar however was able to push Lucky Zone strongly to get the better of the front-runner to justify favouritism. Life Is Good made a futile late rally.
M R Chauhan trained Gretsy was the beneficiary of the wayward drift of favourite Assured Success. Assured Success cut an erratic course in the straight in the 1200 metres Razia Sultana Plate (Div I), and affected the chances of Great Giver and more significantly of Encore who ended up being fourth. With Assured Success taking the two horses on his outside wide, the gap opened up for Gretsy on the inside and the long shot made good the opportunity to record an easy win. Following an objection, Assured Success was relegated to the third position, with Great Giver getting the runner-up spot. The lower division of the race was won by Jasbir Singh trained Hoping Sky who came from the clouds to get the better of D Right Time, Trishul and the front-running favourite Decoy to land the spoils at long odds in the hands of jockey Mohit Singh.
