Suraj Narredu piloted Divine Art to a decisive win, fending off a challenge from Puranjaya in the final 100 meters of the K Mahipathi Rao Memorial Golconda Juvenile Million. This feature race at Hyderabad, open to three-year-olds, saw the two Bangalore challengers locked in a fierce duel, but it was Divine Art who emerged as the undeniable victor, securing a second consecutive win for trainer Satish Narredu.
Having already notched an effortless victory in Bangalore, Divine Art entered the race as the overwhelming favorite, a status reflected in the lopsided odds at the betting ring. The competition was hardly expected to pose a significant threat, and the race unfolded accordingly. Puranjaya, under the guidance of jockey J Chinoy, set off with a determined start-to-finish strategy, leading the pack with Divine Art hot on her heels, while the rest of the field trailed behind.
Despite Puranjaya`s tenacity, Suraj Narredu pushed Divine Art to the limit, and in the final stretch, the filly showcased her class, effortlessly cruising past the front-runner to win by a comfortable margin of two lengths. Dapper Look, largely overlooked by bettors, secured third place, while Born Brave, who was expected to be a contender, failed to live up to his name and finished a disappointing last.
Satheesh`s charge, Encore, displayed gritty determination to clinch victory in the 1600 meters Nawab Khaja Moinuddin Khan Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. In a race where all eyes were on Leo D`Silva`s Only My Way, the favorite faltered mid-race, falling out of contention and leaving the door open for others to seize the moment.
As the field rounded the final bend, Encore was positioned in fourth or fifth, seemingly biding his time. Under the skilled guidance of jockey Ekram Alam, the horse made a bold move on the wide outside, surging forward with impressive speed. By the final furlong, Encore had taken command of the race. Brooklyn Beauty launched a fierce pursuit, but the wire came just in time to save Encore, who held on by a rapidly shrinking margin of a head. Delhi Heights ran an encouraging race to secure third place, showing promise with a strong forward run.
In the lower division of the Moinuddin Khan Memorial Cup, Indian Sniper, trained by Magan Singh Parmar, made it back-to-back wins with a well-timed victory. Jockey Mohit Singh executed a patient ride, keeping Indian Sniper in the rear group while Queen Empress set a brisk pace at the front. Mohit navigated Indian Sniper through the field, finding gaps and saving ground, before unleashing a powerful finish. Indian Sniper overhauled the long-time leader Queen Empress and hit the front, but the victory was far from assured. A late charge from Toffee required every ounce of Indian Sniper`s resolve.
Laxman Singh`s fancied runner, Australia, failed to live up to expectations in the lower division of the race, continuing a frustrating season for the trainer, whose horses have often underperformed despite being well-regarded.
The 1200 metres Mica Empress Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds, saw the favorites live up to their billing in both divisions. In the upper division, Nilesh Rawal`s Uchchaishravas was heavily backed and did not disappoint. With Nilesh`s brother Neeraj in the saddle, the favorite showcased his class by effortlessly overtaking the early leader, Clarity, in the straight and then pulling away to win by an impressive margin of six lengths. Gloria and Tiger Ruby followed in behind, but neither could make a serious challenge.
In the lower division, Donald Netto`s Nonpareil, the shortest-priced favorite of the day, faced a brief challenge from Torchbearer before asserting dominance. Jockey Akshay Kumar guided Nonpareil to a comfortable victory, breaking free in the final furlong to win by over four lengths. Shooting Star came in third, trailing the winner by a considerable margin.
Ravinder Singh`s Carnival Lady made a victorious return in the 1400 metres Adler Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, after a lengthy break. Benefiting from a strong forward run in her previous outing, Carnival Lady found herself at the rear of the field early on, with apprentice jockey Shivansh biding his time. As the field swung wide in the final turn, Shivansh seized the opportunity, steering Carnival Lady through a clear passage along the rails. By the final furlong, she had taken command, holding off late challenges from Code Blue and Sea My Attitude, who had to settle for the minor placings. This win marked Carnival Lady`s third victory from 33 starts.
