The Captain cooks up a smart coup
04-Nov-2017: Captain Cook, the top-rated sprint-specialist, chose to bounce back to form on his way to having a narrow measure of the Monsoon Derby winner, Sana, in the prestigious race, the 1,400m Hilliard Cup, the feature event on Saturday, the opening day of the winter season. Incidentally, both horses hailed from trainer Bharath Singh’s stable. Bharath’s other Classic hope, Gryffindor (C. Alford), also performed poorly in the Ming Dynasty Handicap, thanks to a fall during the saddling process.

Multitude wins feature on S. John’s day
11-Nov-2017: Form held true in most of Saturday’s race card, featuring the 1,400m Mayfowl Cup; which was claimed by trainer Vijay Singh’s 9/20 hot favourite, Multitude, who was simply brilliant in his winning effort. The afternoon also presented opportunities to the visiting jockeys --John and Dashrath Singh – to display their riding skills. John booted home four winners while Dashrath picked up three, in the afternoon`s eight-event card.

Noverro brings cheers the battered stable
22-Nov-2017: Trainer Bharath Singh’s 4/1 shot, Noverro (Dashrath Singh-up) won a close battle with trainer James McKeown’s in-form horse, Invincible Prince (C. Alford) to claim the 1,200m RWITC Cup, Wednesday’s feature event. Bharath’s other fancied runners, however, proved big letdowns in the eight-event card; which also witnessed Christopher booting home three winners, including James’ Mahasuvi, and the Aashey Doctor-trained pair of Heliconia and Glorious Leaps.

Sana decimates opposition in the 1000 Guineas
25-Nov-2017: As expected Sana (Dashrath Singh-up) won the Calcutta 1000 Guineas, on Saturday. The Bharath Singh-trained filly, in fact, totally decimated the opposition to lift the coveted trophy from the Bangalore-challenger, Implicit Trust (Trevor Patel), by more than five lengths in a fairly fast run race. The afternoon was otherwise ruled by trainer Vijay Singh and jockeys S. John, and also Ashhad Asbar who reeled off a treble apiece.

The brilliant performance of the son of Multidimensional saw him decimate the opposition. Trainer James McKeown who is steadily proving his mettle, had a rewarding day, saddling three winners, two of them ridden by the star of the moment David Allan.

Aggregated upstages Shaman in the 2000 Guineas
13-Dec-2017: Trainer Malesh Narredu’s charge, Aggregated (Christopher Alford-up) – a long shot in the nine-horse field – scored a decisive victory over the hot favourite, Shaman (Trevor Patel), to claim the 1,600m Aakriti Art Gallery Calcutta 1000 Guineas, the main attraction in Wednesday’s card. The afternoon also witnessed jockey Dashrath Singh partnering trainer Bharath Singh’s baby, Coup de Grace, to victory in the 1,100m Chisel Crafts Calcutta Juvenile Stakes with an equal ease. Dashrath went on to notch up a treble in the eight-event card.

Sana romps home with the Ladies Derby
16-Dec-2017: Trainer Bharath Singh’s prized filly, Sana (Dashrath Singh-up) scored an emphatic victory to fully justify her crammed odds in the Ladies’ Derby, the 2,400m Calcutta Oaks, Saturday’s feature event. The afternoon also witnessed trainer Sulieman Attaollahi’s Captain Morgan (Y.S. Srinath) cashing in on his superior outstation class to win the 1,600m D. Khaitan Memorial Calcutta Gold Cup, a Grade-II race.

Captain Cook upsets in Burdwan Cup
23-Dec-2017: Captain Cook, a long shot from Bharath Singh’s stable, was driven to a pillar-to-post victory by jockey Arshad Alam, in the 1,200m Mahrajadhiraj Uday Chand Mahtab of Burdwan Memorial Cup, on Saturday. Half-an-hour earlier, Bharath Singh’s another charge, Gryffindor (Dashrath Singh), had won another trophy, the 1,200m Police Commissioner’s Cup, for the stable, on an afternoon otherwise ruled by the lesser fancied winners.

Jack Frost beats Multitude in his own backyard
26-Dec-2017: Trainer Vinesh Gaekwad’s western India challenger, Jack Frost (Trevor Patel), a 5/1 shot, scored a decisive victory in the 1,400m Army Cup, on the Boxing Day, Tuesday. Jack Frost had an easy measure of the local champion, Multitude (Imran Chisty), in his own backyard. Aggregated makes history as Sana fails Derby test
07-Jan-2018: Trainer Malesh Narredu’s relatively in-experienced galloper, Aggregated (Suraj Narredu-up), made a history and a powerful statement, as well, while winning the 2,400m Calcutta Derby Stakes, on Sunday. The 8/1 shot won the Derby from trainer Bharath Singh’s 6/10 hot favourite, Sana, ridden by Dashrath Singh. The Dean’s Kitten son won his career’s second major Classic in just three starts.

Multitude justifies odds while outsiders rule
13-Jan-2018: Multitude, once again, had an easy measure of the opposition. The Vijay Singh-trained prized galloper, claimed the 1,200m Calcutta Champions’ Sprint Trophy in the hands of jockey Dashrath Singh who guided the five-year-old in his preparatory run for the forth coming Sprinters’ Cup, early in the month of March. The afternoon was mainly ruled by outsiders as the sport was very competitive.
