Hyderabad Opener Plays by the Script
21-Jul-2025: After a nearly five-month hiatus, the Hyderabad racing season resumed with the usual uncertainty surrounding race fitness. Early-season form is often a mystery, and meaningful patterns emerge only once horses get a run under their belts and the trackwork intensifies. Yet, the season opener provided some clarity. Jockey Ashad Asbar had a profitable day, booting home.

Calista Girl Springs Surprise in Feature Event
22-Jul-2025: Trainer Ravinder Singh’s runners have a knack for winning at nourishing odds—perhaps because they rarely receive the kind of betting ring thrust that transforms them into market darlings. Staying true to that pattern, Calista Girl claimed top honours in the 1100 metres K Srinivas Reddy Memorial Cup, the feature event of Tuesday’s Hyderabad Monsoon Season card for horses rated 40 to 65.

Trainer Prasad Raju Joins 1,000-Win Club
28-Jul-2025: Monday’s Hyderabad races will be etched in local turf history as the day trainer K S V Prasad Raju joined the elite club of Indian trainers to have saddled 1,000 career winners. The remarkable milestone was achieved in style when Sangreal, the firm favourite in the concluding race of the day, obliged with a commanding win—fittingly ridden by none other than Suraj Narredu, a long-time ally in Raju’s training journey.

Processions in Place of Competition
04-Aug-2025: The true essence of horse racing les in the thrill of competition—though lately, that thrill seems to have taken a sabbatical. Sure, punters enjoy those rare, golden days when favourites oblige, but when racing turns into a rehearsed recital of solo gallops, one begins to wonder: is this horse racing or just a guided tour of the track? Monday’s Hyderabad card, for instance, could easily have been mistaken for a sequel to Pune’s weekend action. Favourites ruled the roost with a solitary upset thrown in

Varun Disrupts the Favourites` Parade
09-Aug-2025: Jockey Varun seemed determined to audition for the role of “Disruptor of the Day,” and the Stewards, unimpressed with his performance on NRI Ultrapower, obliged by labelling his effort “unsatisfactory” — racing’s polite way of saying what on earth was that? His ride effectively put the brakes on what could have been a clean sweep for the favourites. The Stewards noted the glaring lack of enthusiasm and the fact that his move came so late. This generous delay gifted front-running Kings Best an uncontested win.

Star of Night Turns Feature into a Solo Act
11-Aug-2025: Hilton Sequeira-trained Star of Night decided that déjà vu was overrated and made the 1800 metres Bhagyanagar Million (for horses rated 80 and above) a one-horse show at Monday’s Hyderabad races. Last time, he had to work up a sweat to fend off High Command. This time, over the longer trip, he was switched off in the rear and then warmed up in the straight, collared High Command, and then left him marooned as he surged away to win by an expanding five lengths under B R Kumar. The “justified favouritism” line feels like an understatement.

Pyrite Shines in Nizam’s Cup Drama
17-Aug-2025: In what could pass off as a photo-finish audition for a thriller, the Gr 2 2000 metres Nizam’s Gold Cup, a terms race for four-year-olds and over and the feature event of Sunday’s Hyderabad races, turned into a four-horse traffic jam at the winning post. Sandesh, who looked all set to lose yet another argument with fate, somehow managed to transform defeat into victory by bullying favourite Pyrite into covering enormous ground in the last furlong. A head, a short head, and another head separated Pyrite, Victor Hugo, Rise And Reign, and Galahad.

Certainty Wins, Chaos Follows; Bookies Cash In Big
18-Aug-2025: For those grumbling that Hyderabad racing had become a dreary parade of favourites obliging at miserly odds, Monday was the universe’s way of saying: Careful what you wish for. The charm of unpredictability returned with a vengeance, and by sundown, it was the bookmakers—smiling like cats who had raided the cream pot, who were left richer, while punters trudged out looking as if someone had pickpocketed both their wallets and their optimism.

Imperia rules in the Governor`s Cup
24-Aug-2025: Trainer Anant Vatsalya has a knack for squeezing results out of a limited string, and on Sunday he showed once again that smart placement can sometimes do the job of a big string. His star pupil Imperia proved her consistency wasn’t just statistical trivia, but the real deal. Stepping up in the 1200 metres Governor’s Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Sunday’s Hyderabad races, Imperia weathered some mid-race turbulence and then stormed clear for her seventh win from just 15 starts.

Gachchhatu Marches On in Deccan Fillies
31-Aug-2025: Nilesh Rawal saddled the first classic of his career when the unbeaten Gachchhatu decided to prove that winning on the “local circuit” wasn’t just a warm-up act. The progeny of Sans Per Aquam had been sprinting like her tail was on fire, and stretching to a mile in the Gr 3 Coromandel Gromor Deccan Fillies Championship Stakes, the season’s first classic at Malakpet, turned out to be an easy task.

Favourites Win Three but Wallets Empty End of Day
01-Sep-2025: In the current racing scene, “favourite” is less about form and more about the bookies’ sense of humour. Horses that wouldn’t normally qualify as favourites even in their own stables are being quoted at cramped odds, right alongside the genuinely deserving ones. The poor punters, dazzled by the shiny “favourite” tag, believe it’s a shortcut to profit—until they realise that a couple of costly flops can wipe out four winners.

Red Bishop Mugs Favourite on the Post
08-Sep-2025: The Gr 3 Y Shanker Rao Memorial Deccan Colts Championship Stakes, second classic of Hyderabad’s Monsoon Season, went exactly to script: a two-horse duel with the rest playing extras. Prokofiev and Red Bishop, old foes, clashed again. This time, it was billed as Prokofiev’s day. But Trevor Patel’s big-race experience turned the tables in a breath-taking finish.

Star of Night Dims Dyf`s Glow in President`s Cup
14-Sep-2025: The Gr 2 President of India Gold Cup once again played executioner to Dyf’s grand ambitions. Nirad Karanjawala’s seasoned traveller, who has logged more frequent-flyer miles than a corporate consultant, carried punters’ dreams but was betrayed by weary legs and the cruel weights he had to gift-wrap for his rivals. Star of Night, Hilton Sequeira’s dependable local, suddenly found speed and flattened both Dyf and Pyrite—sending Hyderabad’s crowd into rare, delirious joy at an outstation scalp.

Hyderabad Mondays: Racing or Reality Show?
15-Sep-2025: The Telangana Race Horse Owners Association has finally voiced what punters mutter every Monday under their breath: Hyderabad racing has morphed into a soap opera—complete with recycled plots, surprise twists, and jockeys who look more ready for the red carpet than the weighing scale. Horses seem to run for “special interest groups,” riders change styles faster than Instagram reels, and the all-India betting frenzy on Mondays has become the perfect stage for theatrics.
