Laxman Singh trained Napoleon proved too good in the Kr Rajendra Singh Memorial Golconda Juvenile Million (Gr 3), the richest race for three year olds at Malakpet on Sunday. The lesser fancied runner came through with a lightening run in the final furlong to leave the field standing to win in amazing fashion. Favourite Aprillia who had got the measure of the front runner with an opportunistic run along the rails in the final furlong, failed to sustain and eventually faded out to finish a tame third.
The son of Glory of Dancer out of Little Pleasure (Tecorno) had won his previous outing in impressive fashion but Aprillia who had won a race over six furlong at the same venue beating more or less the same opposition by five lengths was installed the firm favourite. However, the extended trip of seven furlongs was the undoing of the progeny of Burden of Proof as she failed to display the spark she had shown since her debut run at Bangalore. Rapture of Victory who is another well performed three year old came up with a late rally but Napoleon proved too good in the end.

Orient Glory set a fast pace followed by Yakshagana, Matias, Aprillia, Rapture of Victory with Napoleon in penultimate position, being cramped for space to run on an even keel. Jockey Imran Khan wisely moved out from the rails and thereafter the lesser fancied runner settled down well. Orient Glory brought the field into the homestretch with Aprillia quickly improving and shooting through the opening along the rails. However, Aprillia flattered to deceive as she failed to break away from the field. She had no answer when Napoleon came through on the wide outside with a terrific burst of speed to go sailing clear to win pulling up. Rapture of Victory edged out Aprillia for the runner up berth.
Prasad Raju trained Flashy Conquest held off favourite Sorbitrate to win the Artistic Tribute Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three year olds. Fancied quite sweetly by the connections, Flashy Conquest was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Stephen Carson and the Duja filly comfortably kept the favourite at bay by quickening nicely in the final stages of the race. Esperanza picked up steam when the cause had been lost but nevertheless ran on to finish third. Favourite Young Sapper chased Kathakali into the straight and then left the front runner stranded with a furlong out to win by a widening margin of five lengths in the lower division of the race.
Faisal Hasan trained Splendid Act pulled off a fast one in the Greensmith Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 75. Stablemate Tristar was the favourite but the filly made no show. Splendid Act raced upfront form the start and then showed enough resolution to take charge of the proceedings to record a comfortable win. Al Jadeed finished powerfully edging out Flaming Ruby from the runner up berth. Alberton Star recorded an encore in the lower division of the race by getting the measure of long time leader Chamatkar with a furlong out and then had enough reserves to keep the late rallying Heydan and Mighty Prince at a safe distance.
Vittal Deshmukh trained Sweet Heart got stronger close home and edged past the front running Divine Ganges to win the 2200 metres Bonzer Cup, the day`s opener. Iki Tombi who graced the rear for most part of the journey, finished on purposefully to finish third.
Apprentice Kiran Naidu had to just the show the way to favourite Surya Putra in the R S Jhunjhunwala Memorial Cup, a Category III race and he did the rest to win by a widening margin of over four lengths. The Beatles Angels beat Hunting Bay to the third spot.
Dancing Touch who has been in good nick this season, recorded yet another win in the RCTC Cup, a six furlong Category II race. Dancing Touch was held up in about the fifth position but in the homestretch he devoured ground and had the race sewn up inside the final 100 metres. Long time leader Red Fairy weakened to finish third. Vijayraaj flashed homefrom way behind to finish an impressive second.
Ultra Violet Ray brought off an upset in the concluding race of the day with a start to finish mission. Citidancer finished with a big rush but fell short by a neck.
