Fancied runners to the fore at Mysore

By: Sridhama   July 7 , 2010

Five favorites won in the card of six events on Wednesday at Mysore. Despite heavy rain which delayed the start of the race by about 30 minutes and soft underfoot conditions, horses with form were concerned at the finish, making for an excellent day out for punters. Trainers Darashah and Bipin Salvi and their retained jockeys Appu and Stephane recorded a double each.

Bipin Salvi trained Live It Up scored an encore. Her win over a mile in higher class was even more authoritative. She was the firm favourite to win. Live It Up tracked Theworldismine in the mid group as Boston Ranger attempted the difficult task of winning from the front. Boston Ranger packed up on turning for home and thereafter cut an erratic path. Theworldismine smoothly went into the lead but as is his wont, buckled close home. Live It Up is always a strong finisher and her finishing burst ensured a comfortable win by over two lengths. Looking To Lead who was carrying a crushing impost, ran on to finish third.

Another ward from Bipin`s stables, Look Alike obliged as a favourite but she had to be stretched completely to overhaul Skyfleet who faltered at the post. Skyfleet who was hanging badly all through took over at around 100 meters and shaped to win but Look Alike who was produced widest of all produced an astounding gallop from behind and got up just in the nick of time to peg back Skyfleet. Skyfleet who was running for the first time this season should oblige with the benefit of this forward run.

Bucethalis who shed his maiden ranks last time out scored a stylish win over Arabian Memories. Bucethalis who had nothing much to beat was quoted as odds on favourite but the odds went up dramatically close to race time. Rajesh had it easy on the favourite whom he kept in mid bunch and just had to remind him with a tap or two when the race took a serious turn in the straight to alert the horse to the task on hand. The progeny of Burden Of Proof galloped resolutely and won with plenty in hand. Arabian Memories ran on to finish second and he should profit from this run.

Lesser fancied Bold Success necked out Aspiring Seven in a close finish. Mystic Enchantress, who was the firm favourite, took over the running at the top of the straight and shaped to win but slackened in the dying moments of the race. Bold Success shot through the rails to put his neck in front and managed to prevail over a fast finishing Aspiring Seven.

In yet another tight finish, Del Gratia held on to win from Chamcha In Chief. Del Gratia broke into a clear lead inside the final furlong and looked to win comfortably. However, the favourite weakened and Chamcha In Chief very nearly overhauled the filly.

Favourite Mr. Sunrise won a hard fought battle in the opener to win at the expense of rank outsider Lapis Lazuli led all the way in the mile long trip only to lose in the closing strides of the race Lapis Lazuli had a good lead of over seven lengths but the hard driven Mr. Sunrise gradually covered up the leeway and recorded a narrow win.
