Super Duper performance in Juvenile Million

By: Tippu Sultan   December 13 , 2010

Vittal Deshmukh`s Super Duper came up with a stellar performance to win the five and half furlongs A P Race Horse Owners Association Juvenile Million, a race for two year olds, the highlight of Monday`s races. The got abroad colt left the field stranded at the top of the straight to win by a widening margin over the opposition which was simply outclassed. Followers of favourites had the better of the exchanges.

With stable`s successful jockey Pradeep Chouhan electing to ride Spanish Conquest, he was the most sought after in the betting ring. The other runners including Super Duper were at nourishing odds. Zero Tolerance led the field from the start with Spanish Pursuit in hot pursuit. The progeny of Keltos then skipped away on turning for home and all one could see was the grey expanding the lead with every furlong.

Bloody Mary who ran prominently into the straight and engaged the eventual winner in a brief duel, however, held off Forentine and Aventina for the second spot. Spanish Conquest was a lost cause well before the race came on the boil. The sire of Super Duper, Keltos, also a grey, was by Kendor out of Loxandra (Last Tycoon). He was rated above Hawk Wing who progeny Becket caught the imagination of Indian race goers, Noverre who is currently the best stallion standing in India, Distance Music, Domedriver and Invincible Spirit. He won nine races including Locking Stakes, Newbury (Gr 1).

Laxman Singh`s Golden Queen was backed to the exclusion of her rivals in the Prince Pradeep Cup and understandably so as she towered over the rest. Jockey Pradeep Chouhan, who is set to create a new mark for the number of wins he is likely to accumulate during the season, had Golden Queen in prominent position till turning for home. When asked to quicken on straightening for the home run, Golden Queen accelerated in a trice and left the field way behind. Dream Deal was a long way second.

After being astride a couple of losing favourites, Chouhan rounded off the day`s tally with a treble in the concluding race of the day where the lesser fancied Golden Flame showed a quick burst of speed to go into a winning lead with a furlong out with held him in good stead as Prohibition put up a late bid. Favourite Ultra Violet Ray ran in a forward position till the final bend before fading away from the scene.

Trainer Donald Netto has a foreign jockey riding for him but it is always with apprentices that he seems to be winning his races. It was so with Yippee who was strongly fancied to win the Hardwar Plate (Div I). Bernardo, who has not been seen in his best form, came in for sustained support but he ran a disappointing race. Yippee seized the initiative on turning for home and sped away for an easy win over Copertina who was putting in good work at the finish by bridging the leeway considerably. If she maintains the form, she can be trusted to win over an extended trip.

Prasad Raju`s Indian Epic was a decisive winner of the Satavahana Cup (Div I). Indian Epic skipped away to established to big lead with a furlong out and all that Intrepid Warrior could do was to bridge the gap in the end. The well backed Kathakali won the lower division of the race quite easily from Star Experience and Sorbitrate who despite a lethargic start, ran well towards the close.

Favourite Oscar Royal came home with a big run inside the final 100 metres to edge past front running Narwhal to win the 1100 metres Crack Regiment Plate (Div I). Cannon Vision made a late rally to finish a notable third. Classic Ruby spread-eagled the field in the lower division of the race by recording a convincing win. Favourite Ferrari City was not sighted. Yours Mine N Ours lacked early speed and finished a tame second.

Trainer Vittal Deshmukh provided jockey Pradeep Chouhan with an arm chair ride to victory in the day`s opener, the 1800 metres Zurbaran Plate. The favourite led all the way and checked by a widening margin of six lengths over Star of Hyderabad.
