Always Bullish gets his turn after 10 efforts

By: Tippu Sultan   September 30 , 2015

Netto trained Always Bullish ended the winless sequence by winning the 1400 metres Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup (Div I), a Category I race which was the feature event of races held at Malakpet on Wednesday. Always Bullish had drawn a blank in his last 10 outings during the last two seasons although promising each time of a better performance which finally materialised.

Always Bullish had run behind top performer Machiavellianism in his last run and that run was encouraging enough to make him a favourite considering the modest nature of the opposition. The progeny of Storm Trooper did not disappoint as he raced up with the field, showed up prominently in the final furlong and then stormed clear of front running Shamrock Lady and won capably from Happy Guy whose jockey N S Rathore compounded his problems by losing his whip at a crucial stage of the race. Shamrock Lady stayed put to gain third spot. Jockey Pradeep Chouhan who was out of action on an enforced holiday was astride many fancied runners in the course of the day`s action but much to the disappointment of those expecting the former champion to strike, he and his horses flopped badly.

Laxman Singh trained Tejaswini battled with Vijays Triumph till the final furlong before storming clear to win the lower division of the Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup with ease from Palm Springs and Ashok Chakra. Vijays Triumph weakened to go out of sight. My Star who reared up at the start and lost considerable ground, did well to recover ground and was full of running when finishing a suggestive fourth.

Leo D`Silva had ensured that Majorca would get all the advantage by declaring five kg claimer Vikrant on Majorca which resulted in the progeny of Arabian Gulf look a cut above the rest in the 1000 metres Nawab Sultan Ali Khan Memorial Cup, a Category III race. Vikrant did well to take over the running from the outside draw and the fancied runner had an unassailable lead going into the final furlong. The late flourish of Oathofyourdaughter only served to add some excitement to the race. Mount Titlis who had chased the front running Majorca, weakened in the straight to eventually finish third. There was inspired betting on Wonder Star who however did not justify the huge punt in the ring.

K R K Raju trained Commanding Boy was an eye-catching second in his last effort and on the basis of that effort, was accorded the status of being favourite to win the 1100 metres Gajwel Plate (Div I), a Category II race. Commanding Boy was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Sreekant and the favourite stayed put there although he was under threat if only because of his wayward ways because under pressure he began to veer out. However, his lead held him in good stead as Tricky Star, despite a good rally had to settle for second spot. Sketch of Beauty gathered steam late and narrowly failed to get past Tricky Star but ended up a noteworthy third. Satheesh trained Moon Walker who was quoted at cramped odds, enjoyed an uncontested lead in front and was not required to stretch out fully to win the lower division of the race by a widening margin of four lengths over hard ridden Awesome Show and In Command.

Satheesh trained King of Pop comfortably won the 1100 metres S N Reddy Memorial Cup, a Category II race. King Of Pop led all the way and though Green Striker and favourite Advocate General came home with powerful efforts, the cushion that he had held him in good stead. Advocate General who has let down innumerable times over varying trips, was expected to bounce back to winning ways as he was brought back to a scurry which suited his style. However, down the final furlong, jockey Pradeep Chouhan could not manoeuvre a good run and was held up fractionally to get a clear run and by the time he broke clear, the cause had been lost. Advocate General even lost the runner up berth as Green Striker hung on gamely. It was a poor effort by jockey Chouhan who has been a pale shadow of his former self when wins used to chase him. Now he is chasing to get winners but is failing with amazing consistency.

Netto trained Flower Roll Up brought off an upset in the 1400 metres Jatprole Cup, a Category II race by gallantly holding on to the lead. Tograllu had Flower Roll Up dictate proceedings right from the start and though Chouhan on Red Express was unable to get that bit extra as he failed to pass the front runner despite shaping to do so. In the end, he lost the runner up berth too as favourite Sensei made a late dash to claim that place. The first three finishers were within an arm`s length of each of other.

Prasad Raju trained Gayle Force smoothly cruised into the lead as the race evolved in the straight and had firm control on the proceedings inside the final 200 metres and won the 1200 metres Raja Saheb of Challapalli Memorial Cup, a Category III race. Ryuzaki held off favourite Shivalik Bird for the runner up berth. Chouhan failed to keep Shivalik Bird on an even keel and the favourite ran all over the place under pressure.

Kiran Naidu drove out Classic Emerald vigorously to nail the front running Exclusive Lady in the final stride of the race to win the 1400 metres P V G Raju Memorial Cup, a Category III race. Fenway Court was a well beaten third.
