That’s My Class proves his class in feature

By: Tippu Sultan   February 10 , 2018

Faisal Hassan trained That`s My Class who had run an eye-catching second in his last start, proved overwhelmingly superior to the opposition in the 1400 metres Sri S Ramakrishnam Raju Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 58 to 78, the feature event of Saturday`s Hyderabad races. Jockey Akshay Kumar who has been enjoying a great season, had an arm-chair ride to victory on the favourite.

That`s My Class had gone down fighting to Dance Oh Dance on the last occasion. This time out, that run indicated that he was far superior to the opposition because of the quality of that performance. Accordingly, he was given the status of being the favourite ahead of Prince Caspian and the rest. Akshay Kumar kept That`s My Class in a handy fourth or fifth position till turning for home and the progeny of Top Class steadily bridged the gap and had sewn up the race long way from home. Aragonda Princess kept the second position ahead of Prince Caspian.

Leo D`Silva trained Barnabas accounted for the opposition in the 1600 metres Mr Fazzilath Hussain Memorial Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds, quite easily. Hitting the front from the word `go`, Barnabas ran freely in front and skipped clear of the well backed favourite Jo Malone to win by a comfortable margin of over four lengths. Wings of Eagles who was also in betting, struggled hard to pick up momentum and had to settle for the third slot. Vittal Deshmukh trained Golden Fortune was the one in serious betting in the lower division of the race as the progeny of Sedgefield had a good forward to his credit. Fergus Sweeney had it easy on the favourite who sped clear of the rest in the final furlong despite shifting out under pressure. Mark My Word was second while Aflatun was a tame third.

Leo D`Silva trained Palisades Park fought off a resolute battle with Newport and landed the battles in the 1200 metres Makalu Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Newport appeared to have settled the issue when he measured Palisades Park. However, the latter produced that bit extra under pressure to regain the initiative and pull off a narrow win. Southern Crown was third ahead of favourite Star Gazer. Prasad Raju trained Celtic Queen had been running consistently on board without finding the winning mark. The four-year-old filly Celtic Queen found a meek company and readily won the lower division of the race against a submissive opposition. There was a fight for minor placings with Desert Moon grabbing the second position ahead of long-time leader Takisha and Texas Rodeo.

After 10 unproductive runs, Prasad Raju trained Gladstone was backed one-sided in the betting ring in the 1200 metres Nelston Plate, a race for horses rated up to 30. Gladstone proved that he was far superior to the opposition and that his past runs were given with impunity by slamming the opposition by a margin of seven lengths which put a question mark on the ability of stipes to run racing in a fair manner. The fact that the horse was been giving runs was clear by the way the horse ran away from the field. If winners don`t show any indication of form and produce such efforts, they authorities need to pull up in the interest of protecting racing from becoming pure gambling. Vijays Delight nosed out Good Taste to get the third place.

Two stablemates of more or less equal merit were in the fray for the 1400 metres Pleasure Hunt Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. In races of such nature, the punters are always confused as to the intentions of the connections. Yanga was more fancied than Exclusive Symbol as was evident by the trend in the betting ring, but the former was not sighted at the busy end Exclusive Symbol easily won the race from Charlie Brown and Escobar.

Lesser fancied Gunner from the stables of trainer Arjun Anne asserted his supremacy in the 1400 metres Attractress Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Gunner had a healthy lead going into the final furlong and this held him in good stead when last start winner Sunday Carnival made a valiant effort only to find the front-runner slip away. Sunday Carnival saved the second place from Magna Carta.
