Oasis Star sweeps rivals off their feet

By: True Blue   August 2 , 2009

- Oasis Star (Senure – Gumbaru Etsu) proved that her defeat in September last year had nothing to do with her ability in any manner and was an aberration of sorts. The mare whose career has been nothing short of phenomenal literally swept all her rivals including Juventus off their feet to win the Turf Club Trophy (Gr.3) in taking style.

The highest rated mare in the country was expected to face a stiff challenge from young Juventus, who flattered briefly in the straight but capitulated easier than expected. The Manjri Stud bred Oasis Star, who is kept in top fettle by C. D. Katrak, added another graded race to her kitty and the sheer joy on the faces of her proud owners, Shapoor Mistry and Tariq Vaidya, on the astounding success of their property was to be seen to be believed. Juventus just managed to latch on to the runner-up spot keeping the late finishing Aquilo at bay while Spica ended fourth.

- Another star shone earlier in the form of Sea Star, sired by the Kentucky Derby winner Maria`s Mon and who is out of the Irish broodmare Chanteline, when the Imran Chisty ridden gelding went pillar to post to win the Lufthansa August Handicap. Sea Star hit the front and kept going despite the threat posed by Harmonica who simply couldn`t concede weight to her adversary. Harmonica, however, lives to fight for another day. Noble Salute and Caustic Finale looked pedestrian in front of the first two runners.

Despite giving a gallant performance Tromos went down to Tsesebe (Indictment – Estonia) in the Star Comrade Plate. The Vinayak trained filly was ridden well off the pace by apprentice N. S. Parmar and made her move only when the race took a serious turn. Swahili, a frontline contender, fell by the wayside even as the four-horse was reaching the last turn. Soon, Tromos took over the running from Notable Runner but it was not smooth sailing for him like in his previous success. Tsesebe steadily ranged along side and had Tromos by the scruff of his neck close home. Just when it seemed that Tromos was dead and buried and Tsesebe home and dry, the former sprang back to life again. Tromos managed to wrest the lead but only for a fleeting second before his last stride towards the winning post where Tsesebe nailed him once again.

- Enceladus (Black Cash – Selerina`s Song) seems in a hurry to make up for her failures in the previous seasons and the mare trained by Nazak Chenoy registered a shock victory once again. Dashrath Singh piloted Enceladus went in hot pursuit of leader and owner-mate Monopoly right from the word go and forged ahead after the latter started to slow down. Oyster Pearl appeared poised to topple Enceladus but found her a hard nut to crack. Angels Glory ran miserably till she finally got into her stride and edged out Monopoly from the third place.

All the hard work put in by Paper King after taking off from the barriers came to a nought when Narendra Lagad`s ward La Joie De Vie (Diffident – La Joya) successfully challenged his supremacy and fetched the verdict in the shadow of the winning post. Calypso Dancer and The Tempest didn`t figure in the fray as expected by all. Slickkit ran an encouraging third ahead of Solid Rock. Slickkit should earn a bracket with better assistance in the saddle, which we ought to see very soon.

- Sea Value, the China Visit progeny out of Allosaki, showed plenty of speed and the Imtiaz Sait nurtured filly made mincemeat of her rivals once she took over the mantle from Aberdovey. El Tropico made jockey R. Shelar foolish as he attempted to stay away from the limelight and dragged him to end a notable third. Favourite Blazing Spectacle hurt himself and jockey B. Prakash after rearing up on entering the stalls and had to be withdrawn.

- Alaska (Warrshan – Taj Mahal) won at the expense of piping hot favourite Step By Step in the curtain raiser and left the punters in a tizzy right at the start of the day`s proceedings. Shabdeez ran second ahead of Molto Bella while the favourite ended a miserable fourth.

A similar victory was recorded by the Nirad Karanjawala trained mare Nara (Black Cash – Blue Water) who denied Starlite Express glory near home. Favourite Magical Mantra ran third with Saarah finishing fourth. Es Sider lost all his chances at the jump-out although he tried to make up lost ground when his brushed him up to run along side the front runners.

It would have made a lot of difference if only you had mentioned
the pedigree background of Sea Star ( Sea Star, sired by the Kentucky Derby winner Maria`s Mon and who is out of the Irish broodmare Chanteline) in your selection/pointers of the race ..

I asked everybody the details of the pedigree of Sea Star & none could come forth..

People like you should put across such info in your selection/pointers column instead of bare one-liners.

Regards
Suresh

When Oasis Star lost last year ridden by Wayne Smith,I had posted that the horse lost because of Smith!s riding which was not posted in your site.If you can view all the race of Oasis Star, you will observe that the animal never(Even once) hit the front from the word go.It was only in the race which she lost our Wyne took her on a start to finish mission and lost and that too to the most feeblest finisher among jockeys who have completed 1000 wins and I dont have to name the other greats who have completed 1000 wins.
