Gallantry slams opposition in Stylecracker Million

By: Frankel   April 14 , 2019

Malesh Narredu trained Gallantry had it easy in the 1400 meres Stylecracker Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of the concluding day`s races of the Mumbai racing season held on Sunday. Trainer Pesi Shroff retained the trainers` championship stakes while Sandesh emerged as the champion jockey. A S Peter was the champion apprentice jockey. Usha Stud Farm was the leading stud farm.

After the withdrawal of Princess Annabel, Silver Flames became the firm favourite though, for one noticing the trend in the betting ring, it was evident that Gallantry was coming in for plunge in odds. Jockey Trevor Patel had Gallantry dictate the pace with Silver Flames in the chase. Inside the final 350 metres, Gallantry shook off his rival and sped away for an easy win. Royal Crystal ran on strongly to edge past Silver Flames to get the runner-up berth.

Apprentice jockey Peter continued to have a good run as he guided favourite Furiosa for an easy win in the 1400 metres Godspeed Plate, a race for horses rated 4 to 30. Furiosa was kept well up by Peter and the short-priced favourite skipped clear of the rest on turning for home and had several lengths to spare when passing the winning post well clear of Romantic Eyes. Destined Glory pipped Bee Quirky to save place money.

Last start winner Gentillesse from the stables of trainer Sanjay Kolse recorded an encore with a thrilling closing strides win over Excellent Sorrento in the 1400 metres Godspeed Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 66. Favourite Cormorant held the lead till the final stages of the race but Excellent Sorrento managed to put his neck in front in the shadow of the post. However, Gentillesse who took the final turn literally in the last position produced a big effort in the hands of jockey Amit and managed to get the nod in the final moments of the race to win at nourishing odds.

Trevor Patel just about managed to get favourite Democrat to put his head in front in the 1000 metres Trainers Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 4 to 30. Democrat got into the lead inside the final furlong along the rails with Royal Ace essaying a strong challenge. Apprentice Peter tried his best on Royal Ace but Democrat clung on to record a narrow win. Democrat thus was winning after a longish break of 473 days. Arabian Muktar saved place money with a late dash.

Trevor Patel was successful on Rospomare who pulled it off in the lower division of the race. Rospomare was backed ahead of Lovely Fairy to land the spoils. The latter played up at the gates and was withdrawn from the fray. Vitesse held fort in front but inside the final 100 metres, Rospomare responded well to the urgings of the jockey and managed to overhaul the leader for a comfortable win. Cristo Boss came up with a late rally to pip Vitesse to snatch the second place.

Imtiaz Sait who is enjoying a good run despite being down with a broken wrist and an injured back in a freak mishap in the stable had a winner through Kimberella who built on the forward efforts to win the 1600 metres Girl From Ipanema Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Kimberella who shot ahead inside the final furlong spurted away to go beyond the reach of the rest. Agrami was second while Romanesque ran disappointingly to finish a poor third.

Vinesh trained Alpine Express who had served notice of an early success duly won the 1000 Racing Officials Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Sandesh had Alpine Express dictate the pace from the word `go` and the favourite was not hard-pressed to win as she pleased from late rallying Ame. Royston Tock was third.

Jockey Sandesh ended the season on a triumphant note driving out Sanjay Kolse trained Laburnum to a start to finish win in the 1400 metres Good Bye Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Laburnum who was the favourite, skipped beyond the reach of the rest in the final furlong to win from Regal Shot who made a futile attempt to catch up with the front-runner. Shivalik Skies was third.
