Shesmyscript maintains winning form

  June 1 , 2019

Irfan Ghatala trained Shesmyscript held off a strong challenge from Sakura to land the spoils in the 1400 metres Speaker`s Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of a lacklustre card of six events that was gone through on Saturday. The policies of the Bangalore Turf Club management which resulted in the restriction of participation of outstation horses ensured that the club was unable to cobble up a decent card for each day of racing. Often, the day`s card has more races catering to the lower category horses which is also, the reason why racing is becoming unpopular as these races are proving to be very deceptive.

Be that as it may, Shesmyscript had recorded a runaway win last timeout and despite incurring a stiff penalty, the progeny of Whatsthescript had the ability to win yet again as her record in the terms races indicated that in the handicap races she deserved to be backed till beaten. Jockey Trevor Patel kept Shesmyscript in the rear of the field with Sakura for the company as Buscadero led the field into the straight. Sakura was brought into contention in the final furlong by jockey Akshay Kumar through a ground-saving effort while Trevor chose to take a clear path on the wide outside. Shesmyscript produced the patented burst of speed and after a brief duel with Sakura, asserted her supremacy. Rafa nosed out Dr Logan to save place money.

Prasanna Kumar trained Areca Legend swamped the opposition in the 1200 metres V T Velu Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Areca Legend had the experience while Hyderabad challenger Sitara who had recorded back to back wins in her own age group was taking on a seasoned opposition. Areca Legend proved too speedy for comfort as the progeny of Air Support swept away from the rest on turning for home and spared four lengths at the finish to Sitara who was outpaced but rallied a little in the end. Super Success took the third spot.

However, another Hyderabad challenge Lighting Bolt proved too good for the opposition in the Beautiful Babe Plate (Div II), a race for maiden three-year-olds. The well-bred Lightning Bolt from the stables of trainer Vittal Deshmukh was backed to the exclusion of the rest with Sea of Cortez enjoying some support. Despite the wide outside hole, Lightning Bolt quickly worked out a handy position before bolting clear in the stretch for an emphatic win. Unstoppable was second while Ice Floe made significant progress in the final furlong from way off the pace to be a noteworthy third. The upper division of the race too was won by an overwhelming favourite. Malesh Narredu trained Storm Breaker was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Yash Narredu and the progeny of Leitir Mor drew away from the opposition in the final furlong to record an impressive win. Harbour Sunrise ran on to take the second position ahead of Yours Forever.

Nityanand trained Star Man brought off a big upset in the 1200 meters Mamma`s Mink Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Star Man had been fancied on a couple of occasions but often, his performance was impaired by him bursting the blood vessels. As such, he was available at long odds. The betting rage was Sahara. The favourite went into the lead in earnest inside the final furlong but was overhauled by Star Man who burst on the scene with a strong run along the rails and then got the measure of the front-runner in the closing strides of the race. Amber Crown was third. Jockey Ryan Marshall is sure to be hauled up before the Stewards for he took things easy and relaxed after going into the lead. He could not shake up the horse to accelerate again when Star Man posed danger. Ryan Marshall could well have invited a holiday from riding. There was no hiccup for another Neil Darashah trained favourite Tico Rico in the lower division of the race. After chasing Look Out well into the straight, Tico Rico asserted her supremacy in the hands of jockey Trevor Patel to record an easy win. Strongly fancied Ido What I Do was a well-beaten second. Mayurana surprised most by finishing third and returned a rich dividend on a tenner on the tote.

@sharankumar sir,
Star Man won at the expense of Sahara only because of Ryan Marshall who either because of over-confidence for reasons best known to him, took things easy and allowed himself to be beaten. The Stewards should surely look into this.
