Suraj Narredu sweeps card at Malakpet

By: Tippu Sultan   October 27 , 2019

Jockey Suraj Narredu was on fire at Malakpet on Sunday booting home five winners in a card of seven events. Suraj Narredu drove out That`s My Magic to victory in the 1600 metres Rajah R J K Ranga Rao Zamindar of Chikkavaram Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Sunday`s racing to take his haul for the day to five, his best in recent times.

Suraj brought That`s My Magic with a well-timed run from way off the pace and the fancied runner responded well to join issue with those who were battling it out in front along with pace-setter King Maker holding fort deep into the final 100 metres. That`s My Magic shot ahead with 50 metres left in the race and won by a shade less than a length from Nayadeep and late finishing Treasure Striker who headed Lockhart to save place money. King Maker weakened close to home to finish off the frame. Staridar who was running after 259 days was made the favourite and one has not seen many horses in this category win with such obvious disadvantage. Staridar after being in touch with the pacesetter till the final furlong eventually finished in the ruck. Jockey Akshay Kumar appeared to have selected all duds as none of his horses could oblige expectations much to the disappointment of scores of his followers who expected him to strike consistently.

Suraj Narredu literally swept the card as he collected a bagful of winners. Leo D`Silva trained Star of Tiara who had finished second best on four occasions was running in the lower category and looked set to break the maidens ranks in her 12th effort. Suraj relaxed Star of Tiara in about the fifth position before alerting his horse to the task in the stretch. Star of Tiara devoured ground and cruised past those in front and had the race sewn up a long way from home. Unstoppable was second ahead of late finishing Green Turf. This was the fourth win of the day for Suraj out of first five races. There was an objection by Nakhat Singh who rode the fourth-placed Gazebo against Srikant who rode unstoppable who had finished second for interference causing him to lose a possible second place. The objection was overruled as it was a secondary interference brought about by Darshish squeezing the horses on his inside.

Hilton Sequeira trained Call of the Blue completed a hat-trick of wins by annexing the 2400 metres Nawab Arshad Ali Khan Memorial Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 with a flourishing run from way off the pace. Favourite Cape Kidnappers moved up smoothly approaching the final bend and took charge going into the final furlong. However, he could not carry his lead to the post as Call of the Blue finished with a rush from the rear of the field to sail past the front-runner to win with a measure of comfort. The more fancied Roll Call, the stablemate of the eventual winner, ran on to edge past Cape Kidnappers to get the runner-up berth.

Suraj Narredu enjoyed a good run as he guided his third straight win of the day through favourite Ayur Shakti who trounced the opposition in the 1200 metres Smt C Mohana Kumari Satyanarayana Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Ayur Shakti assumed command inside the final furlong moving with raking stride on the wide outside from a fourth position at the final bend and sped beyond the reach of the rest to win by a widening margin of five lengths. Giethorn kept the second position ahead of Wah Ms Zara who rallied along the rails to save place money. Suraj Narredu was also astride Donald Netto trained Star Envoy who was an easy winner of the lower division of the race. Satyanarayana trained City of Wisdom came in for one-sided support to win the race so much so that the odds cramped in a trice. Possibly this helped many betters to skip this horse and they were lucky because the favourite flopped miserably. One fails to understand how horses trained by Satyanarayana come in for so much betting and despite many such horses not obliging, his horses continue to attract disproportionate betting. From a third position at the final bend, Star Envoy took over the running inside the final 300 metres and skipped clear of City of Wisdom who was in the hopeless chase. Angel Tesoro came from a long way back to save place money.

Prasad Raju trained Country`s Gift built on the impressive second behind Handsome Duo by claiming the lower division of the race with great deal of comfort. Suraj Narredu took the strongly fancied runner on a start to finish mission and Country`s Gift accomplished the task with a measure of comfort, staying well clear of her only pursuer Best Friend. Blazing Castle was faraway third while the fancied All Star General never got into any sort of rhythm and finished miserably. Shezad Abbas trained Negress Princess swamped the field in the lower division of the race winning start to finish by a widening margin of seven lengths over Invasion and Country`s Pet. Favourite Dance All Night faded out of contention after being in touch with the eventual winner till turning for home. Akshay Kumar thus a drew blank for the day as Dance All Night too failed miserably.
