Green Image wins feature at fancy odds

By: Tippu Sultan   December 26 , 2016

Green Image brought off a big upset in the 1400 metres Jockey Purtu Singh Parmar Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 46 to 70, the feature event of Monday`s races held at Malakpet. Trainer Netto was in the limelight saddling four winners, with visiting jockey Beuzelin Louis being associated with three of the wins.

The difference of weight between Wonder Eye and Green Image vis-à-vis their last clash was marginal and as such, both should have gone to the post at identical odds. The verdict between the two was not big. However, Wonder Eye went to the post as a well-fancied runner along with Market Leader with Green Image was at big odds. One of the considerations that weighed in the minds of punters was the fact that Green Image who had been sporting aluminum shoes all along was this time running with steel shoes. Steel shoes are seen as a negative factor by most punters as horses who are in serious business always run with aluminum shoes. If there was no difference between the two, then all horses would have been using a uniform shoe instead of the more expensive aluminum shoes. In the end, Green Image simply thrashed the field with Market Leader finishing a tame third while Wonder Eye was not spotted at the busy end.

Market Leader showed greater speed from the gates and led the field well into the straight before Princess Rose began to assert her superiority. Green Image who was lying in wait, then pounced on the battling duo in front, got the lead swiftly and stretched away for a facile win. Market Leader was third. Wonder Eye did not get a brisk start and thereafter looked a beaten cause. The lower division of the race was claimed by favourite Little Smart Heart who gained ascendancy in the final furlong after being in about the fourth or fifth position till well into the straight. Little Smart Heart stormed away to win with ease from Masti and Mighty Swing.

Donald Netto trained Kangra who was making his debut in the 1200 metres Olympic Flame Plate (Div I), a race for two-year-olds proved too good for the opposition, leaving them cold with a powerful run down the final furlong to win as she pleased. Desert Moon was second ahead of Waverley Cheek. Kangra is the progeny of first season stallion Western Aristocrat who has had a good start to his stud career, with its progeny showing proving to be precocious. The stallion is owned by Marthand Mahindra of Broadacres Stud Farm and Faruq Rattonsey and Zaheer Rattonsey. Anupam Sharma trained Treasure Striker won the lower division of the race at odds of 10 to 1. Treasure Striker tracked the speedy Asteria well into the straight before storming ahead with a furlong to go in the race and won with ease from favourite China Millennium who found the eventual winner too good for comfort. Asteria stayed on to take the third position.

Another Netto ward Picture Perfect won the 1200 metres Manjira Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 50, easily collaring the front-running Malakeye Ziba inside the final furlong and then bouncing clear to win the race at nourishing odds. My Choice ran on well from behind to take the second place ahead of Apache Gal. Fancied Act In Time all her chances at the gate itself with a lethargic beginning which effectively sealed her fate. Vittal Deshmukh trained Time Is Luck had won her last outing quite well and a repeat win as on the cards which was also reflected in the sentiment at the betting ring. Time Is Luck measured the opposition easily and was hailed a winner long way from home. Hard fought finished on well to take the second place ahead of Manogamini who showed greater resolution from the gates and led the field till overhauled by the eventual winner.

Prince of Dreams was another winner saddled by Netto. Princess of Dreams looked the likely winner when the runners approached the final furlong as she was beginning to assert her supremacy. In the hands of Beuzelin Louis, Princess of Dream burst clear of the opposition to record a comfortable win, with Own Battle and Shandaar occupying the next two slots on the frame.

The day`s opener had seen Bouzelin Louis drive out Sweet March to contain the challenge of Shakespeare to win the 1200 metres Step Aside Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Shakesphere led all the way and refused to give up easily. However, Sweet March who warmed to the task towards the closing stages of the race, overhauled the front-runner quite comfortably. Darakshan Setarah was third.

Lesser fancied runner from Anupam Sharma`s stable Blaze of Glory managed to get the better of fancied War Cry to win the 1200 metres Sweet Girl Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. War Cry led in earnest but closer home, could not sustain the challenge of Blaze of Glory who wrapped up the race with a strong finish. Samba was third.
